The Legend of Dragoon Wiki
She is a beautiful warrior with a sharp tongue and a deadly sword. She will teach Dart much about the art of Dragoon warfare and fights beside him in many battles. There is a well-guarded mystique about her.

-The manual

Gameplay[]

Abilities and Attributes[]

Rose is a character with above average physical and good magical offense, as well as mostly average stats otherwise and rather low HP. Rose has a notoriously strong early game when she joins on CD 1, surpassing the other party members in terms of Physical Attack and being approximately on par with Lavitz in Physical Defense, as well as boasting unrivaled magical attributes at the time, most notably an outstanding Magical Attack which allows her to use magical attack items to their best potential. This solidifies her as a very competent offensive character, to which a slightly above average speed of 55 adds.

While her HP are fairly low and make her quite frail in comparison to Lavitz and Dart, in the early game she will still be more durable than Shana who tends to be under-leveled during the entirety of CD 1 due to missing out on the defense of Hoax and Shirley’s Shrine.

As the game progresses and other characters gain experience and skill, Rose’s actual strengths and weaknesses relative to the rest of the cast become more apparent. Having the second lowest HP of the group and only average Physical and Magical Defense, she has a remarkably low survivability in battles. However, both her magical and physical offensive prowess stays useful throughout the game, which is aided by being the second character in the party to have the potential to unlock a final addition after Lavitz and Albert, having only three additions to master before. Said final addition, Demon’s Dance, also has the third highest damage multiplier of all additions in the game (just a single percent below Haschel's Omni-Sweep). Her physical attacking strength is brought to the extremes in the endgame, where she receives the Dragon Buster for the final boss fight.

Rose has a unique Dragoon form, but two of its magical spells are largely situational. Astral Drain, arguably her best spell, is a 50% damage (incorrectly described as 25% in the game) single-target dark magic, costs only 10 MP and is available from the beginning, while Death Dimension and Demon’s Gate tend to be only useful in regular encounters (with the rare exception of minion enemies in boss fights).

Rose stays an offensively capable character throughout the entire game, although other members of the cast eventually surpass her, such as Albert and Haschel in their physical damaging potential, as well as Shana and Meru in terms of Magical Attack and Defense. Overall, Rose has a tremendous early game, but from approximately CD 2 onwards, she can be described more as a "glass cannon", boasting good Magical and Physical Attack, but being quite frail due to her low HP and mediocre defense.

Rose's Stats[]

The following table lists Rose's stats in steps of 10 Levels up to Level 60:

50 4060 128 129 127 129
60 5250 142 142 150 150

Rose's Speed is 55, which is marginally better than Dart, but also slightly lower than Haschel.

Acquiring the Dragoon Spirit[]

Rose is already a Dragoon when she joins the party, having held her Dragoon Spirit since the Dragon Campaign.

Dragoon Transformation[]

To transform into her Dragoon form, Rose crosses her arms while being embedded in lightning as it flashes in white. Her Dragoon form is formed while being covered in a dark shadowed sphere as it disappears before she reveals herself and striking her pose.

Dragoon Magic[]

Rose's Dragoon Magic has some unique properties, such as the HP draining effect of Astral Drain, inflicting Fear with Death Dimension and performing an instant kill to minor enemies with Demon' Gate.

Name Dragoon Level MP Target Effect
Astral Drain Initial 10 Single enemy Dark 50% and HP recovery*
Death Dimension 2 20 All enemies Dark 25% and Fear
Demon's Gate 3 30 All enemies Instant kill (No effect on bosses)
Dark Dragon 5 80 Single enemy Dark 100%

*The in-game description erroneously says 25%. The HP is equally distributed among the group, however, should a group member reach max HP due to this, the surplus HP is distributed to the other members.

Note: The main story of the game is found in the corresponding articles for the four chapters:

The following section only summarizes events where Rose is particularly highlighted.

Chapter 1: The Serdian War[]

Prologue[]

Rose observing Feyrbrand.

Rose observing Feyrbrand.

The Green Tusked Dragon, Feyrbrand.

-Rose

The quote above by Rose marks the beginning of The Legend of Dragoon, as she watches the Dragon in a forest down in valley. Rose jumps down into the forest, and Chapter 1 of the game starts.

As Dart, the protagonist of the game, encounters some Sandoran Soldiers, he is chased by Feyrbrand. When Dart is hit by Feyrbrand's claws, Rose comes by and saves him by hiding behind a rock. Rose explains that the creature was a Dragon, but she wonders, as "the village could've been easily destroyed without a Dragon." To this, Dart expresses shock, as Seles is his hometown, and he rushes off. Just at that moment, a dark blue gem glows near Rose's body, much to her surprise.

Oh my god...!? That man must be...? No. There is no way.

-Rose

Hoax[]

Rose calls upon Dart's Dragoon Spirit.

Rose calls upon Dart's Dragoon Spirit.

Rose does not show up until later in the game, where Dart and Lavitz assist in the defense of Hoax against the Sandoran Army. Kongol, the Giganto warrior, is about to finish Dart off after knocking him to the ground, but at this moment, Rose appears again, this time in a unique winged armor, descending from the skies and interrupting Kongol. Rose then points her sword to Dart, and calls upon the powers of Dart's Dragoon Spirit.

Wake up! Dragoon of the Red-Eye Dragon!

-Rose

Rose joins Dart and Lavitz.

Rose joins Dart and Lavitz.

This prompts Dart to transform into the legendary Dragoon, knocking Kongol out with a mighty burst of energy.

The knight of the Dragon, the Dragoon was born.

-Rose

Dart, after defeating Kongol, faints in front of Shana after transforming back, and the remaining Sandoran Soldiers call for retreat. As Dart rests in the inn, Shana blames Rose for causing trouble. When Dart wakes up, Rose introduces herself to Dart by her name, and Dart explains to Shana that Rose is the one who saved his life from the Dragon on his way to Seles, and thanks her.

I don't need any thanks. I wanted to do it. I followed you because I was fascinated by this artifact that you own...the Dragoon Spirit of the Red-Eye Dragon. You 'deserve' to rule Dragons. This light shows the true evidence. From the time the Dragoon Spirit starts to shine, you have to accept your fate as a Dragoon. Just like me.

-Rose

On this, Lavitz remarks that he is astonished about Rose's knowledge, claiming she knows "too much nobody else could know about". When Dart asks her whether the Dragoon Spirit was the only reason for her saving him, Rose tells the group that while saving Dart was a test to see whether he really was a Dragoon, she also also saw her old friends who struggled and still remained strong in the past in Dart and Lavitz.

I didn't know it. It was a test to see if he could be a Dragoon. If you couldn't, you would be dead now. [...] Honestly, I was surprised myself, but now I know why. You guys look like my dear old friends. They lived in the middle of a turbulent generation, yet they were strong enough to grab their own fate. They knew the way to go, the things to do, the enemy to defeat and the people to protect. I feel the same about you guys, so, I couldn't help doing that. Now you understand me? [...] Everybody's gone. It's all in the past.

Hoax in ruins after the battle, where Rose offers some training to Dart.

After Shana apologizes to Rose, Rose remarks that she "is used to being hated", and as the group goes outside, they find out that the Seventh Fort of the Kingdom of Basil is attacked by the Dragon. When Lavitz considers attacking the Dragon directly in the Dragon's Nest, Rose sarcastically scolds him for his naivety, but points out that Dragoons can defeat the Dragon, and calls upon Dart's newfound resolve.

Dart. You should understand this. We have a different existence. We are beyond Humans.

-Rose

Rose decides to accompany Dart, Lavitz and Shana, and upon Dart being called the "messiah of the Kingdom of Basil", hints at Dart's lack of experience, offering him training to master his newfound powers.

Messiah, huh. You cannot be called a real Dragoon getting stunned like that, by bursting with the power.

-Rose

When the group leaves, Rose remarks that once they leave the town, she will treat Dart like a real Dragoon and will not show him how to fight anymore.

Shana being called to the Virage

Shana being called to the Virage

Volcano Villude[]

In the Volcano Villude, Rose recognizes Firebird in the distance. Later on, when Shana is mysteriously called to a huge statue-like figure, Rose recognizes the creature as a Virage and recommends to not go nearer, as it still appears to be alive.

Listen to Shana. This Virage is still alive. [...] You know about the Dragon Campaign, right? The Winglies were outnumbered, so they used this creature called Virage as their trump card in the war. Just as Humans used Dragons, Winglies used Virage.

-Rose

As Shana wonders how it could still be alive, the Virage suddently starts moving, and forces the group to a fight.

I would say, it's due to the hatred of Humans, or a vendetta against us Dragoons. We gotta settle this.

-Rose

Nest of Dragon[]

At the Nest of Dragon, Rose directs the group's attention to the Dragon's poison contaminating the forest.

The Dragon's poison is in the air at the Nest of Dragon.

The Dragon's poison is in the air at the Nest of Dragon.

Eventually, Dart and his group find Greham, the Dragoon of the Jade Dragon, summoning Feyrbrand to his side.

It shouldn't be a surprise. Only the Dragoons can manipulate Dragons.

Behind the Dragon, there should be...

-Rose to Greham, right before Feyrbrand appears.

Before the fight begins, Rose asks Greham where he has the Dragoon Spirit from, to which he reveals that Emperor Doel received his power and intelligence from Emperor Diaz. This leaves Rose in entire disbelief, as Diaz was a historical figure that died over 11,000 years ago. Greham, however, refuses to elaborate, and challenges the group to a fight.

Is this some kind of dream? Emperor Diaz died 11,000 yars ago. With the name of the Holy Imperial Gloriano.

-Rose

Lavitz is recognized by the Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragon.

Lavitz is recognized by the Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragon.

After the battle and Greham's death, Lavitz is recognized by the Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragon as its next master. Rose thinks about this being fate, and encourages Lavitz to accept it.

(Such a coincidence...! It can't be ... or is this fate?!)

-Rose to herself

Dart is right, the Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragoon recognized you as the next master. Not only do you "deserve", but you have an obligation to accept your fate as a Dragoon, don't you?

-Rose

As Lavitz says that he wants to use these powers for justice, Rose shows a slightly dismissive or wondering attitude to this in her own thoughts, with a blunt "Huh!".

Shrine of Shirley[]

In the Shrine of Shirley, Rose points out a Dragon symbol near the entrance, and asks the group to draw out their Dragoon Spirits. The Dragoon Spirits of Dart, Lavitz and Rose resonate with the symbol, and Rose concludes that a Dragoon is inside the location.

After defeating Drake the Bandit, Shirley appears. Rose appears to be her old acquaintance, asking whether Shirley remembers her.

Shirley recognizes Rose.

Shirley recognizes Rose.

You are.... Rose, aren't you... Oh.... I understand. You have been on your sad journey since then.

-Shirley to Rose

As Shirley challenges the group to a trial to find out about their worthiness to receive the Dragoon Spirit of the White-Silver Dragon, Shirley tells Rose that she can see the end of her journey, and that Dart will play a pivotal role in it.

Rose, I see the end of your agonizing journey. The young man there will awaken the old you, and lead you to the future.

-Shirley

As Shirley ascends back into the heavens, she and Rose say their farewells, with Rose remarking that she went to the place where she belongs.

Lohan[]

The arena in Lohan.

The arena in Lohan.

Back in Lohan, after the Hero Competition, the group gathers in the arena. There, Dart introduces Haschel to the group, and tells his story of travelling in search of the Black Monster. This makes Rose think for a moment.

Black... Monster.

-Rose to herself

Lavitz tries to organize things in a way that Dart and Shana can spend some time together, and pretends to go out with Rose, dragging her along. However, Rose knocks him to the ground. Lavitz, however, assures that they only pretend to.

Hellena Prison[]

In Hellena Prison, the group is ambushed and trapped into the lair of Jiango. Rose sarcastically comments that it is their own fault for getting caught in the trap, to which Haschel replies that she is harsh.

Seles[]

When the group gathers together with Albert in Seles and talks about Lavitz, Rose tells the group that the weapon that killed him was the Dragon Buster.

He was out of luck. I didn't know he had the Dragon Buster. It's a weapon from the old world made only to kill Dragons. Even with the almighty Dragoon Armor, it is a mere shroud in front of the Dragon Buster.

-Rose

When Dart apologizes to Rose for accompanying them into "such a mess", Rose quickly points out she comes along on her own will.

I am the one following you. Anyway, Basil will be finished soon if we don’t do something. I am looking forward to watching what you will do in the future.

-Rose

When Albert tells the lore about the Moon Gem stolen from him, Rose bluntly remarks that having the national treasure of Serdio might make Emperor Doel the legitimate heir to the throne of Serdio, and wonders what Albert can do.

That's right. Once he obtains the secret treasure, he is the crown heir of Serdio both in name and reality. The birth of the Conqueror King Doel. That would be the end of Basil. [...] What is a king to do if he doesn't have a castle to go back to and a large force to protect him?

-Rose

However, as Albert decides to go to the Black Castle and confront Doel directly, Rose praises his daring plan.

Kazas[]

As Popo, the representative of the New Serdio Party, leads the group to a secret underground tunnel leading to the Black Castle, Rose, for no apparent reason, goes ahead to the castle.

Black Castle[]

When the group encounters Magi the Magic Researcher in the Black Castle, Rose shows a particularly sarcastic attitude towards the frenzy of the researcher and his magic not working.

Let him. It seems interesting. [...] It's worse than I thought.

-Rose

Rose shatters Kongol's armor after the fight.

Rose shatters Kongol's armor after the fight.

Before confronting Emperor Doel in his throne room, Dart and his group confront Kongol one more time, who wears a particularly strong armor. Eventually, Dart and his group are victorious, and Rose shatters the armor of Kongol. Kongol, in his shame of having been defeated twice, asks the group to kill him, with Rose agreeing to fulfill his wish. However, Dart and Shana intervene and prevent her from doing so. To this, Rose sarcastically voices her concern over their kindness.

Hope your sweetness won't kill you.

-Rose

When the group confronts Emperor Doel on why he abducted Shana, he claims that everything is ordered by the reborn Emperor Diaz. Rose, however, quickly dismisses this.

Silly. Emperor Diaz died in the Dragon Campaign. As a human... hero.

-Rose

After the group fights and overcomes Emperor Doel, Dart and the others decide to pursue Lloyd in Tiberoa. As Rose explains that she will follow them too, Haschel intends to part ways with the group. However, at this moment, Doel's Dragoon Spirit of the Violet Dragon descends down and recognizes Haschel as its next master, to which Rose remarks that it is his choice to leave his fate behind.

'When Dragoons meet, blood will flow and as they leave, time does slow'. It's your choice to leave your fate behind.

Rose tries to retrieve the Dragoon Spirit from Mappi.

Barrens[]

In the Barrens, Dart and his companions encounter Mappi and some thieves of the Gehrich Gang. Dart and his companions make quick work of the bandits, but Mappi tricks Dart by begging for his life, only to suddently attack him off guard. Mappi snatches the Dragoon Spirit of the Red-Eye Dragoon from Dart. Although Rose intervenes and goes after Mappi, the nimble bandit escapes over the hills. From there on, Rose appears somewhat agitated and harsh to Dart about the stolen Dragoon Spirit.

A Dragoon Spirit being stolen is the last thing I wanted to have happen.

The group meets Meru in Donau.

In Donau, when the group is first mistaken for bandits due to their dirty clothing, there is some chatting about it being a fact. However, Rose shuts down this conversation, urging the people to find clues about how to retrieve the Dragoon Spirit.

We don't have time for fooling around like that. [...] I am just concerned about the Dragoon Spirit.

-Rose

When the group meets Meru and decides to take her along, Rose appears to be the least enthusiastic in the group about it.

Second Visit to Fletz[]

As the group stays overnight in the Twin Castle upon the invitation of Princess Lisa, Rose has some harsh words to Dart about his stolen Dragoon Spirit, telling him that he shouldn't have let it taken away to start with. When Haschel points out these harsh words and asks her why she doesn't at least smile at times, Rose replies that she doesn't remember how to smile.

Valley of Corrupted Gravity[]

The Valley of Corrupted Gravity, where the group meets another Virage.

In the Valley of Corrupted Gravity, the group finds and defeats a Virage, which however tries to grab Shana with its last power, but Shana is saved by a mysterious light emitting from her forehead and repelling the Virage into the abyss. Rose, baffled by this, asks Shana what she is to Virage, but Shana can not give an answer to this.

What on earth are you... to Virage?

-Rose to Shana

After the fight, the group rests for a moment, in which Rose contemplates the awakening of the Virages, and Shana's mysterious abilities.

(The power that can awake the sleep of 11,000 years.... Is that rancor against us? The rancor against Dragoons awakening the Virage!? Or.... is that something to do with Shana?)

There must be something wrong with Shana, and she must definitely see it. Everybody knows that.

Home of Gigantos[]

After Kongol saves Dart and the rest from a giant stone pillar collapsing on them, Rose comments that it is a strange way to get revenge.

It's a strange way to get revenge on us. What's going on in your mind?

-Rose to Kongol

After the group has a brief conversation, Rose reminds Dart that he forgot "the most important thing", referring to the stolen Dragoon Spirit.

Third Visit to Fletz[]

As Dart and his companions search for Princess Emille in her room together with Princess Lisa, they are transferred to a parallel dimension upon examining a picture of the Princess, who is fast asleep on the other side. Upon Dart talking to her, Shana tries to transform into a Dragoon to fly over, however her transformation fails, as it is difficult to transform outside of battle, and the surrounding seems to suppress the power of Dragoons according to Rose.

Queen Fury[]

Dart finding Rose on the lookout.

Dart finding Rose on the lookout.

On board of the Queen Fury, Dart is in deep thought about the Black Monster, still not knowing anything about it. Dart seeks out Rose on whether she knows something about it, but she tells him that there is nothing she could tell him. Rose asks Dart what he would do if he should meet the Black Monster, and whether he intends to kill it to exert revenge. Rose then enlightens Dart that the Dragoon's source of power is insanity, which goes against human nature, much like revenge.

'Revenge does not generate anything.' That's what I learned from Lavitz. To tell the truth, I don't know what I am going to do or even what I want to do when I face the Black Monster. I just want to know what he is.

-Dart

War is not in human nature. Humans fight by making themselves enter insanity. It is...the same for revenge. This is a tool to amplify the insanity. And this insanity is the source of the power of Dragoons, the Dragon Knight. Someday, something will happen, and if you cannot chasten your insanity, I wonder if you will be able to endure it, given the size of your spirit?

-Rose

Rose finds Haschel on the Deck.

Rose finds Haschel on the Deck.

Wanting to relax, Rose explores the ship and finds Haschel, who asks her why she travels with the group, but they don't have a particularly fruitful conversation, as Haschel remarks that "you look like you're rushing yourself to death, with your life being run by something". Rose, however, quickly leaves him, telling him that these things are none of his business.

Eventually, Meru seeks out Dart to invite him to go around the ship together with her. When Dart is somewhat indifferent about it, Meru initates a more serious conversation, asking Dart questions about Rose and lamenting that Rose has a particularly cold attitude towards her.

(Don't ya think Rose is strange?) [...] I'm not talking about that strange! I think she has something that she hasn't told us or she has been involved in something shady or....

Dart then agrees to join "Meru's expedition" on the ship. They climb up the stairs to visit Rose, but just as Meru is about to speak to Rose, suddently the rumored Phantom Ship from Illisa Bay appears out of the darkness of the night.

Phantom Ship[]

Phantom Ship 1

When the Queen Fury collides with the Phantom Ship, everyone gathers to behold the sight. Seeing it, Rose reacts enigmatically to the ship.

(Th ... this ship is....)

-Rose

As the group uncovers some of the ship's mysteries, Dart and his companions find out that the ship was attacked by the Black Monster and the crew killed. Upon seeing the restless captain of the ship, Dart gets hotheaded, saying that the Black Monster "kills people for no reason". Rose turns away and says nothing to this.

Back on the deck, suddently, Ghost Knights appear and talk to Rose, saying that they won't give Princess Louvia to her. They attack her, but are blown back and vanish. Dart, seeing this, openly expresses his disdain for the Black Monster.

The Black Monster!! How much does he have to kill before he satisfies himself!?

-Dart

Rose, suddently, yells "Stop it!!" at Dart, to which everyone looks at her in a puzzled way.

What was I thinking? Let's move on. You want to know, don't you?

-Rose

After defeating the Ghost Commander and the Ghost Knights and meeting the Ghost Nanny, the Phantom Ship sinks. Everyone jumps back to the Queen Fury, with Rose and Dart remaining. Rose jumps over and Dart follows, but slips off and is hanging only by Rose's hand, who grabs him. At this moment, Rose appears to remember a past event.

(This is the same as back then!!) No!! I won't let go!! I will never let it happen again!!

Lidiera[]

Washed ashore near Lidera, Rose looks after an unconscious Dart and reminds her lover Zieg before remembering the tragic events in the final battle of the Dragon Campaign, with many of her companions dying in the battle.

Dart and Zieg, they are so much alike. Not only are they Dragoons recognized by the Red-Eyed Dragon, but there is something else, something that attracts me ... After 11,000 years, I now feel the strength and tenderness of Dart ... and even ... his frailty. These tame the insanity of the Dragoon for me. Zieg ... If my hands could grab him, I wouldn't have had this bitterness. I saw Zieg in Dart. But ... Dart is Dart. He is not Zieg. No ... he is not Zieg.

In Rose's memories, Kanzas self-destructs to destroy a giant creature, Zieg fights Melbu Frahma, who wields the Dragon Buster, in a one-on-one duel and slays him by piercing the Wingly with his sword, but is hit by a petrification spell at the same time and plunges into the dephths together with his enemy. Meanwhile, a Dragon fights and destroys Virages, and as the location of the battle, a large floating palace in the sky, starts to break apart, Shirley and Belzac are threatened by a Virage that holds on to the wall. Shirley, presumably knocked unconscious before, was saved by Belzac from a collapsing roof he held up, but the Virage pierced him with one of its claws, fatally injuring him. Shirley, seeing this, promises Belzac's death will not be in vain and prepares to shoot an arrow into the Virage's eye, which at the same time charges its laser towards the two Dragoons, likely killing them. In the end, in the ruins of the place, Rose finds Zieg, who is petrified by Melbu Frahma's spell and tells her to go and save herself. Rose tries to hold on to Zieg, but fails to do so, floating off and away.

As Dart and Rose are both asleep the following morning, a young boy named Pete and his dog Pooch find the two and take them back to his village. They discover that Pete's mother is sick and they all need to make their way to the biggest nearby town, Fueno, however, Pete and his mother were unable to go as there is a monster in the Undersea Cavern that leads to Fueno. As Dart and Rose want to leave the village, Pete and Pooch asks them to accompany him and his mother to Fueno, with the two Dragoons agreeing and Rose saying that she can "annihilate the monster for you", with Dart, Pete and Pooch reacting with a blank stare.

Fueno[]

As Dart and Rose, together with Pete, Pooch and Pete's mother, arrive in the town and bid their farewells, Pete asks Rose and Dart once more whether they are in love, hinting at some intimacy when they were both asleep, but is quickly interrupted by Rose and leaves to the clinic, but not before giving a playful last remark about it.

When the group re-unites in Fueno, Haschel remarks to Albert that it appears like Rose has changed, with Albert agreeing that it appears like she calmed down.

After Dart met Shana in her hotel room and spent some time with her, the group gathers again, where Dart tells the story of him and coming back to Fueno. Meru then curiously asks whether Rose and Dart might have gotten into a romantic situation, but Haschel quickly scolds her of asking too rudely.

Meru! Don't be silly. Even though you are trying to learn about love it's too rude!

-Haschel

Ironically, just afterwards, Haschel breaches any form of etiquette by asking essentially the same question even more boldly.

So, Dart. Did you cuddle with Rose?

-Haschel

Everyone around quickly shuts him up with shouting "Haschel!", to which he plays the fool and says that "it slipped out". Rose quickly dismisses everything, assuring Shana that Dart was concerned about her the whole time.

Undersea Cavern/Prison Island[]

Rose and the rest of the group find Lloyd and Lenus on Prison Island.

Eventually, Dart and his companions find Lenus handing over the Moon Dagger to Lloyd at Prison Island. Lloyd claims to be instructed by Diaz and that "namely, everything was planned by the god", but Rose dismisses his words.

You are still talking about that crap!

-Rose to Lloyd

Fourth Visit to Fletz[]

Upon the group's final return to Fletz, the group disbands before the banquet that King Ziors orders to be prepared in honor of the seven heroes. Rose is seen alone in the guest bedrooms, contemplating about her being called a hero. She looks at a choker she wears, takes it off, and remembers the she did not laugh since she put it on.

(I am...a hero... He would laugh at me...) *Chuckle*...

-Rose

(...!? I... laughed now... ...I did laugh... Since I have started to wear this choker... I have not laughed...for years...) *Chuckle*... (It was worth the wait...)

-Rose

Rose calls for Dart at the banquet.

Rose calls for Dart at the banquet.

Before the banquet, after Dart gathers the rest of the group, Lady's maid Libria asks the three women of the group to change into a formal dress for the banquet. Rose, however, rejects it, claiming that she feels naked without her sword.

Later, at the banquet, Rose is nowhere to be seen at first. After Dart talks to his companions in his search for Shana, Maid Libria approaches Dart again, telling him that Rose is looking for him. When Dart goes out on the balcony, Rose scolds him for letting Shana wait outside for so long, and directs Dart to Shana.

Dart... Why are you procrastinating like that? Do you want her to catch a cold or something? Making her wait all night like that? She's over there.

-Rose

Furni[]

Upon the group's arrival in Furni, Rose notices that there is a smell of blood at the place.

There is the smell of blood around this place. But.... It's not bad at all.

Evergreen Forest[]

While the group is on the way to Deningrad, Rose suddently jumps over the cliff and leaves the group, claiming that she has "some errand to do".

The tragic village of Neet, visited by Rose.

It is revealed that Rose, for unknown reasons, decided to visit the tragic village of Neet. Before entering, Rose shows a bit of hesitation.

Nothing has changed. (Am I...hesitating?) It's silly.

-Rose

The Black Monster attacking Neet in Luanna's memories.

The Black Monster attacking Neet in Luanna's memories.

She meets Second Sacred Sister Luanna and the Fourth Sacred Sister Setie along with three Royal Guards from Mille Seseau. Luanna tells Rose that she survived the tragedy of Neet but she became blind in the process.

From her flashback, Luanna remembers the Black Monster pressuring her mother to reveal where Princess Louvia, the Moon Child, went, and saying that the Moon Child has a power to turn everyone into servants for the gods to descend. The Black Monster claimed everyone who was present at the Moon Child's "birth" should die, and killed Luanna's mother, but spared Luanna. In the present, Luanna, however, gained the ability to see into people's souls to heal them. She offers Rose to heal the pain in her heart as well, but Rose says that it is not necessary. Rose then offers protection to the Sacred Sisters and returns back to Deningrad with Luanna, Setie, and the royal guards.

Deningrad[]

After Rose and the two Sacred Sisters meet Dart in Deningrad, they go to the hotel to talk, where Rose tells that she just "happened to be in Neet" meeting the sisters. At this moment, when the Divine Dragon breaks free, Rose's words resonate inside of Dart, causing him to nearly lose his sanity to the Dragoon Spirit.

War is not in human nature. Humans fight by making themselves enter insanity. It is...the same for revenge. This is a tool to amplify the insanity. And this insanity is the source of the power of Dragoons, the Dragon Knight. Someday, something will happen, and if you cannot chasten your insanity, I wonder if you will be able to endure it, given the meagerness of your spirit?

-A voice inside Dart, repeating the words of Rose.

The Divine Dragon flies over Deningrad, causing terror, but not any major damage yet. Rose, knowledgable about it, reveals the identity of the Divine Dragon.

The arrival of the "One who glares through seven diabolic eyes, and who crosses the sky with sevens wings." It's trouble. It's the King of Dragons. The Divine Dragon.

-Rose

When the group is introduced to Queen Theresa, Rose offers the help of the Dragoons in overcoming the Divine Dragon. There, Rose asks about the whereabouts of two legendary artifacts that would give the group a chance to stand up against the Dragon.

[...] We have a favor to ask, Your Majesty. There is one thing we need in order to cross swords with the Divine Dragon. It is said that Winglies made two weapons in ancient times to fight against Dragons. One is a sword to kill Dragons, namely the Dragon Buster. [...] We have no choice but to count on the other weapon. The Dragon Block Staff. As the name implies, it is a magic staff to block the power of Dragons.

-Rose

As Miranda asks about the location of the Dragon Block Staff, Rose points out that Meru appears to know something about it.

I was going to ask you. Actually, it seems that one of us knew about it. Meru?

-Rose

The Dragoon Spirit of the White-Silver Dragon passes over to Miranda.

When later, after deciding to go to the Forest of Winglies to find the Dragon Block Staff, Shana loses her control over the Dragoon Spirit of the White-Silver Dragon, Rose points out that Dragoon Spirits appear to manipulate fate.

Dragoon Spirits manipulate fate. Hmm.

The Elder Bardel attacks Dart, who transforms into the Dragoon of the Red-Eye Dragon and blocks the spell.

In the Forest of Winglies, Dart and the group are confronted by the Elder Bardel, who displays a particular hatred towards humans. Rose, however, dismisses the Elder Bardel's prideful boasting.

You are strong, huh? Don't make me laugh. I wonder if you have noticed you are declining because you cling to the glory of the past? You can barely fly and that's about it, right?

-Rose to the Elder Bardel

The Elder Bardel attacks Dart with a fireball spell, but Dart turns into a Dragoon and quickly counters the spell, making the Elder Bardel lose his will to fight. Rose makes one last sarcastic comment about it before going ahead.

The ones who flaunt their power disappear when the truly powerful appear.

Forbidden Land[]

In the Forbidden Land, Dart and his companions end up at a dead end, where Rose suddently notices that the object blocking the way is the mutilated body of a Super Virage. She also makes a reference to the events of the Dragon Campaign which she remembered when washed ashore in Lidiera.

The Scarred Super Virage in the Forbidden Land.

The Scarred Super Virage in the Forbidden Land.

Wait! This is a Virage! And this scar!! It must be the Virage that killed Belzac. [...] It's one of their subspecies and from its shape, it must have a power far beyond the one we saw. But, it's not a very pretty sight to see.

-Rose

After the battle, Rose wonders whether Virages are not reacting exclusively because of Shana's presence, making Dart wonder about the mysteries around her.

So, does this mean they were not just reacting to Shana?

-Rose

The group finds the Dragon Block Staff.

The group finds the Dragon Block Staff.

When the group arrives at the Dragon Block Staff, Miranda comments that it doesn't look particularly impressive.

You can never tell the size of the magical power from the size of the object. The power of this staff alone has been sealing off the Divine Dragon for more than 10,000 years.

-Rose

Rose also comments that despite of having the Staff, the fight with the Divine Dragon will still be very difficult. When the group speculates whether Lloyd might try to tame the Divine Dragon, Rose is certain that it would be impossible.

The Divine Dragon is not the same as the other Dragons. Even with the staff and us Dragoons, we will have reason for thanks if we can seal him back in.

-Rose

Talking about that, I don't think it is possible. The Divine Dragon would never give in. They couldn't kill him either. That's why he was sealed in. It's way beyond Lloyd's ability to deal with.

-Rose

Mountain of Mortal Dragon[]

Dart and Rose, after falling off the cliff at the Mountain of Mortal Dragon.

In the Mountain of Mortal Dragon, after overcoming the Divine Dragon, the group gives chase to Lloyd. In the caves, he casts a fire ball spell towards Dart and Rose, revealing himself as a Wingly. Dart and Rose fall off the cliff together, where Rose, barely conscious, speaks cryptic words upon seeing the face of Dart.

I thought...you were dead. Don't worry, I am carrying out your will. We took this world back together, I won't let them ruin it. Virage... embryo. The moon... with black power.

-Rose to Dart

Upon this, Dart wonders whether Rose is speaking about the Black Monster and remembers the happenings at Neet, when he escaped the village alongside his father and mother, however his parents went back into the village and never came back.

'Count 108 years, and when the Moon That Never Sets glares red, the Moon Child descends to the earth to give a holy blessing to the world.' Fester said.... What really appears is not the Moon Child, but the Black Monster. What kind of relationship exists between the Black Monster who destroys all and the Moon Child who blesses the world? Rose, what do you know about this?

-Dart

Meru uses her wings to fly down the cliff and to pick up Dart and Rose, who regained her consciousness.

The Tower of Flanvel.

The Tower of Flanvel.

Tower of Flanvel[]

When Dart and his group arrive at the Tower of Flanvel in their pursuit of Lloyd, Rose tells its tale as a flying fortress of the Winglies in the Dragon Campaign.

According to the legend, it was the Winglies' floating fort during the Dragon Campaign. I heard. Winglies in the past used to have an enormous amount of magic power.

-Rose

Near the top of the tower, Rose realizes that the Dragoon Spirit of the Divine Dragon, which is in possession of Lloyd, is resonating to the presence of the other Dragoons.

After the group finally battles and defeats Lloyd, Rose voices some concern to Albert about leaving the issue on how to deal with Lloyd alone to Dart.

Albert, don't you need to be upstairs? Lloyd killed...Lavitz.

-Rose to Albert

Albert, however, replies that he trusts Dart to bring the right answer.

On the way to Vellweb, the group rests inside a cave together with Lloyd, reveals the backgrounds of his plot of planning to give birth to the 108th species.

'Count 108 years and when the Moon That Never Sets glares red, the Moon Child descends to the earth and shall give a holy blessing to the world.' The 'Moon Child' of this legend is the last species. It is the god that gives holy bliss to the world.

-Lloyd

Rose, however, quickly objects to the story, claiming that it is not true. Lloyd, however, asks her in return why the Black Monster keeps killing the Moon Child, to which Rose falls silent.

Fort Magrad, a place from Rose's past.

Fort Magrad, a place from Rose's past.

Fort Magrad[]

In the optional visit to Fort Magrad, Rose is in deep thought and remembers scenes from the past. At the point where the main square is visible from the hill top, Rose has a memory of Emperor Diaz rallying the tens of thousands of troops for the Dragon Campaign.

Diaz: "What we desire is freedom!! Or give us death!!"
Liberation Army of Humans: "God bless Diaz!! God bless Gloriano!!"
Diaz: "I am to bring light to the Humans' future! I am to pass judgment on the past of the Winglies! I am Diaz!!"
Liberation Army of Humans: "God Bless Diaz!! God Bless Gloriano!!"

Upon entering the arena, Rose walks towards a stone and kneels before it, remembering Emperor Diaz speaking with Zieg about their engagement and planned marriage after the war.

Diaz: "There is no guarantee of coming back alive."
Zieg: "Even if one of us dies, our bonds of affection are forever."
Diaz: "Your eyes are already looking at our future. I will realize the future for you."
The Polter Armor awakes in front of Rose and Dart.

The Polter Armor awakes in front of Rose and Dart.

As Rose stays kneeling, Dart's questions about Rose pile up in light of her odd behavior at the Fort, and he is moved to remark: "Sometimes... I wonder if you are the same Rose I know." Rose replies "I am just me", as ancient forces left over from the Dragon Campaign manifest: A sword that had been pierced into a stone levitates hovers above the ground in front of them. Unsurprised, Rose says the spirits of those who died long ago have awakened, and the fight with the Polter Armor begins.

Vellweb[]

The ancient human capital Vellweb from the Dragon Campaign.

In Vellweb, Rose shares some more knowledge about the past, such as when examining the Spear Shooter.

Dart, look at that huge battery. Humans shot huge arrows from there. Aiming at the Tower of Flanvel. And back then, Humans thought this way. 'That the arrow would not only shear the darkness that covers the earth. But also shear their corrupted hearts which were accustomed to being ruled.'

-Rose

When Dart asks Rose why she suddently starts to tell this story, Rose quickly directs his attention back to the task of meeting Diaz.

I don't know. I still cannot tell. But if we meet the guy who claims he is Diaz, I think we can find out the reason. I'm speaking nonsense again. Let's keep going. A hero from history is waiting for us.

-Rose

Dart and Rose meet Shirley in Vellweb.

Dart and Rose meet Shirley in Vellweb.

On the way to the throne room at the center of the city, the group comes across Shirley who asks for help releasing the souls of Kanzas, Belzac, Damia, and Syuveil, four of the Dragoons that died during the Dragon Campaign. However, Dart and his companions give priority to meeting Emperor Diaz first.

I have been waiting for you. [...] I had something I had to take care of here in Vellweb. I couldn't leave the trapped souls alone in this world. [...] The souls of the Dragoons that lost their lives during the Dragon Campaign. Their souls were drawn to Mayfil. The gate of the inferno from which you can never return, is requesting the souls of the Dragoons. [...] I don't know how, but it is true that the gate of the inferno is open. Rose, I made their souls inert and anchored them in this place. But there is a ilmit to my power. After you meet Diaz, please visit this place again. And lead their souls to heaven.

-Shirley

In the throne room, Dart and his companions and Lloyd finally meet Emperor Diaz, who makes a number of grand reveals. After passing the Divine Moon Objects over to him, he first agrees with releasing Shana, but when pressed by Rose on what the "utopia" means, he reveals that the birth of the 108th species, the Virage Embryo, is in fact a grand plot of destroying the world and purging it.

Lloyd. Well done bringing me the Moon Gem, Moon Dagger and Moon Mirror. Now we can let the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction, the last species we desire, the true Virage, arise. I will create the utopia you wanted, after the Virage Embryo purges the world.

-Emperor Diaz

Dart and Lloyd pass the Divine Moon Objects over to Emperor Diaz.

Dart and Lloyd pass the Divine Moon Objects over to Emperor Diaz.

Feeling like a fool for being treated as a mere puppet, Lloyd charges in at Diaz but is quickly engulfed in a magical sphere and sent into the abyss. Then, Emperor Diaz makes another shocking reveal, taking off his mask and revealing himself as Zieg Feld, Dart's father, and Rose's lover from the Dragon Campaign. Zieg reveals that his true intentions for gathering the Divine Moon Objects were to create a new world by destroying the current. Zieg continues and reveals his grand plan, his involvement in the Dragon Campaign, Rose's connection with the Black Monster, and Shana's true identity as the Moon Child.

"Now, I can tell you everything. The beginning of the world was an absolute nothingness... darkness. The Creator Soa sowed a seed to the earth. This is the plan of Soa, that created all species. The birth of the Divine Tree.... Eventually, the fruit of the Divine Tree ripened and fell to the ground to fill the world with life. Gigantos from the 97th fruit. Minintos from the 99th fruit. Dragons from the 105th fruit. Humans from the 106th fruit. Winglies with magic powers from the 107th fruit...And at the end, the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction, was to be born from the 108th fruit. Soa desired the destruction and regeneration of the world by the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction. However, 11,000 years ago, Winglies found out the tragedy waiting for them, and sealed the 108th fruit by separating the flesh and soul. The flesh of the god, the flesh of the Virage Embryo was taken away from the Winglies as the Moon That Never Sets that glows in the sky. And the soul of the god was captured in the Crystal Sphere and Melbu Frahma kept it. Yes, to withdraw unlimited magic power from that, and to conquer the other creatures. However, even with unlimited magic power, the domination was not eternal. Humans arose with Dragoons in front. Nothing was their match because they obtained the power of the dragon. And finally, they drove Melbu Frahma into a corner. I felt certain of human ...my victory. And it was in the next moment, the spell of petrification cast by Melbu captured me. I have waited for 11,000 years. Time, almost eternal, dissolved the spell of Melbu. And I was released from captivity. Days spent with Rose became the eternal past. And I lived as the father of Dart in this age. Until the tragic day in Neet.

[...] But, that's not all. Humans made a mistake. Silly humans destroyed the Crystal Sphere, which was the container of the soul along with the royal capital Kadessa. The Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction was exultant. It could now be born. The free soul released from the Crystal Sphere started to wander. In order to go back to the body left in the Moon That Never Sets, to be born as the last god, and to destroy the world. The soul without a body possesses a human body and heads for the Moon That Never Sets, by repeating the transmigration every 108 years. You now know. The soul of the God of Destruction is the Moon Child. The truth of the Moon Child in the legend. 'Count 108 years and when the Moon That Never Sets glares in red, the Moon Child descends to the earth and shall give a holy blessing to the world.' The 'Holy blessing' is the destruction. The destruction is Soa's will. This is...the fate that rules the future of the world.

But, there was one Dragoon who found out about it. In order to deter the birth of the God of Destruction, she has had to kill the Moon Children. By stopping her own time. She was even called a demon. That is the true self of Rose...The Black Monster!! ...All is the will of the god Soa...My hands start the world, and my hands end the world. Yes! Fate desires it."

On these revealings by Zieg, Dart is in deep shock and tells Rose to tell him that it isn't true, but Rose only replies that the Moon Child has to be killed and the people around it as well before they become the servants of the God of Destruction. To this, Zieg reveals one more thing, that Princess Louvia, who Rose assumed to be the Moon Child 18 years before the event of the game, was not the Moon Child. Instead, she had a twin sister, Shana, who is the actual Moon Child and destined to become the God of Destruction.

Rose tries to kill Shana, but is knocked back.

Rose tries to kill Shana, but is knocked back.

Let me tell you one more truth.”Rose, you thought the Princess Louvia you killed 18 years ago was the Moon Child, but it is not true. Louvia had a twin sister. Shana is the Moon Child!! Shana is...the soul of the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction!! I'll dissolve the Signet of the Moon That Never Sets, and cross it with the Moon Child. Now, I have everything in my hands.

-Zieg

In one last attempt to stop the birth of the God of Destruction, Rose charges at Shana in an attempt to kill her, but is struck back by magical powers. Zieg takes Shana and disappears with the Divine Moon Objects in his possession.

Death Frontier[]

Miranda slaps Rose in an argument.

Miranda slaps Rose in an argument.

After the shocking revelations by Zieg in Vellweb, the group heads towards the Spring Beath Town Ulara. Upon discussing their further path, Rose, having her identity and her past revealed, shows a somewhat dismissive attitude towards the rest of the group, having been solely responsible for the fate of the whole continent of Endiness for over 11,000 years. Miranda, however, feels greatly provoked by Roses brash attitude, and slaps her for jeopardizing the group's efforts until now.

The Spring Breath Town Ulara is revealed by the power of Rose's choker.

The Spring Breath Town Ulara is revealed by the power of Rose's choker.

Upon traversing the Death Frontier, the group ends up at an ancient construction with a Wingly teleport mechanism on the floor, however, all they see is a vast desert, although Meru senses some people's feelings ahead. Using the magical power of her choker, Rose then reveals the Spring Breath Town Ulara to the rest of the group.

Even if an adventurer is lucky enough to make it through the Death Frontier, nobody can proceed from here. Time was stopped for me 11,000 years ago with the spell of this Choker. And, this is the only way to see Ulara, the Spring Breath Town.

-Rose

Ulara, the Spring Breath Town.

Ulara, the Spring Breath Town.

Ulara[]

Upon entering Ulara, Rose receives a heartful welcome by her friend Caron, a Wingly in service of Charle Frahma, and they meet Miata, another old acquaintance of Rose. Miata notices that Rose appears to have regained a sense of time. The group proceeds to meet with Charle, who proceeds to tell them the entire lore about the Signet Sphere, the Divine Moon Objects, the Moon That Never Sets and its connection to the 108th fruit of the Divine Tree, about her brother Melbu Frahma's rule in the ancient times, and about Zieg. It is here that the pieces of history are put together to understand the lore of the Moon Child and the role of the Black Monster.

Charle Frahma welcomes Dart and his group in Ulara.

Charle Frahma welcomes Dart and his group in Ulara.

Rose took on the tragic task of killing the Moon Child every 108 years, and everyone who witnessed its life and birth to prevent them to become followers to the God of Destruction. Over the millenia, this repeated story became the legend of the Black Monster. The choker Rose wears was given to her by Charle Frahma to prevent her from aging. When Charle tells about Rose and Zieg having been lovers, Rose, however, gets embarrassed.

Zieggy was the fiance of Rosie. They crossed both swords and love. Just looking at them made me feel embarrassed.

-Charle Frahma

Stop right there. I want to talk alone with Zieg about our memories.

Later, the group disbands and decides to spend the night in Ulara. Dart first meets with Rose, who asks for forgiveness for what she did to his hometown Neet. The two have a sparring match in the Death Frontier, with Dart emerging victorious. Upon praising Dart for having become strong, Rose asks of him to kill her, but he refuses to do so, as he has come to a closure about his past and found forgiveness knowing about the real purpose of the Black Monster.

"The Black Monster is dead now. We only have.... A companion who is on the same road."

-Dart to Rose

Rose then sits next to Dart at a flower bed, saying that she misses the time when Feyrbrand chases Dart in the forest. Dart agrees, remembering that he knew nothing about the fraily of the world back then.

The world is created so that it can perish at any time. The creator Soa can recreate one anytime. But, the people living there can accept it, believing it is 'fate' or struggle against it. I struggled in order to protect this world that was taken back by friends who gave up their lives.

-Rose

Dart assures Rose one more time that she is not alone anymore. The two go on to meet with the rest of the group. In the bar, they meet Haschel and Miranda, who talk about their past. Rose, having had an argument with Miranda before, approaches her and the two ask the wish to talk to each other, and appear to reconcile.

When the group leaves the town, Charle Frahma and Miata thank Rose one more time for saving the world for so long, even when called a Black Monster. Rose, however, affirms herself that now "the monster has died".

Rosie, honey. You have been doing really great. Since the soul of the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction was released, you have saved the world, let me see, at least 107 times.

-Charle Frahma

Rouge[]

In Rouge, upon observing the mysterious "stock" rising out of the ocean, Rose remembers that the Magical City Aglis was located in this region. From the observation deck, Rose explains to the group the lore about five ancient Wingly cities, the capital Kadessa (now the Forbidden Land), the Birth City Crystal Palace, the Magical City Aglis, the Law City Zenbatos and the Death City Mayfil.

When the group thinks of a way on how to get to Aglis, Rose notices that someone has been observing them. At this moment, the ocean splits and invites the group to Aglis.

Aglis[]

The Magical City Aglis.

The Magical City Aglis.

As the group enters Aglis, Rose tells one more lore about the Dragon Campaign.

This city originally was not in such a suffocating place. All the Wingly cities used to float in the air. So it was easier to control the creatures below. And, that's how it was until we shot them down.

-Rose

Ruff, a magical creature.

Ruff, a magical creature.

The group meets enigmatic magical creatures with pleasant personalities, telling stories about someone named Savan, and often treating Rose as special.

Ruff doesn't want to say anything, but it's a message so that it's rough, ruff. 'Welcome to the seven heroes fated to be here. And Rose, these thousands of years I have waited were neither as long as eternity nor as short as a mere twinkle of a star. People who confront their fate with courage....' I forgot the rest.

-Ruff, one of the magical creatures

Ruff is cute? Then you all are not cute, ruff. But, Rose is exception, ruff.

-Ruff

Don't be mean, pino. It's just a message, pino. It's Rose, pino. You are in the mirror, Rose, pino. It's Rose who got friends and is in the mirror, pino. [...] The mirror that reflects the present has been watching you forever, pino. For thousands of years, watching you, Rose, pino. [...] Don’t be mean, pino. Savan is the same as you, Rose, pino. The same as all of you now, pino.

-Spino

Savan, the Wingly.

Savan, the Wingly.

Finally, the group meets Savan, a powerful and righteous Wingly from the ancient times, who has been researching magic and dedicated his life to support the cause of Rose after finding about her through the mirror.

I survived the Dragon Campaign and continued studying magic to reconstruct a Wingly world. Yes, even making myself ageless and immortal. However, the world outside the mirror hasn't required me. The world of Winglies is no longer desired. I, an immortal body with no purpose. 4000 years of solitude deprived me of everything. Even the significance of life and the meaning of death. But 7000 years ago, I was saved by Rose. I found the meaning of life [...] in the mirror. Rose, who now is confronting her fate. I restarted my study for Rose. And its crystallization is this Psychedelic Bomb and Moot. We will stop the murderous deeds of Zieg, who continues the plan of the creator, by using the attacking spell, the Psychedelic Bomb. And with Moot, we will completely seal the Moon That Never Sets.

-Savan

Savan introduces the group to his magic, and asks for their courage to fuel the power of the Psychedelic Bomb. The entire group goes through a test of courage.

During Kongol's test, the Giganto sees a vision of Rose who challenges him to a practice fight and verbally provokes him, mentioning his losses before and his "cheap pride of a Giganto". Kongol, however, stays calm and realizes that the vision he sees is not Rose, as both him and her have changed.

Kongol and Rose changed. Rose doesn't say such things. You are not Rose.

-Kongol

In Rose's trial, she meets Savan, who contemplates the deeds of the ancient Winglies of trying to stop fate.

I would often think about it. The thing we are doing, namely Charle creating the Signet Sphere to seal the Moon That Never Sets, and Rose continuously killing the Moon Child. I prepared for the coming evil day with a new signet, Moot, and the Psychedelic Bomb. And waited until the moment. The road to destruction laid by the creator Soa was supposed to be absolute. But evolution was stopped by us, Winglies. Whether our deeds were the right thing. And will continue forever.

-Savan

Rose, however, emphasizes that as living beings, they should focus on living in their present. This makes her pass her trial without having to answer another question.

You go too far. We are neither immortal, nor gods. We are mere people. People should just live in the present. Because it means living for the 'next' present. I have been that way. And I won't change. When is my challenge?

-Rose

Savan introduces the group to the Signet Sphere of Aglis and Moot.

Savan introduces the group to the Signet Sphere of Aglis and Moot.

Later, Savan introduces the group to the Signet Sphere of Aglis, guarded by the Last Kraken, and Moot. However, Last Kraken is possessed by Zieg, whom Rose recognizes by his voice.

The group fights and defeats the Last Kraken, but the energy generated by the Dragoons causes a runaway reaction and the destruction of Moot and the Signet Sphere. Savan decides to face his fate and die in the explosion after teleporting the group to safety. Rose says that she still has something to ask him, but Savan dies before she can do so.

As the group leaves Aglis, they witness Savan's magical creatures dying, as they cannot live without Savan, but they connected the teleporting device to Zenebatos. When Rose finds Ruff, she comforts him in his death, as he longs to go outside just once.

Rose. Ruff has been here forever, ruff. Ruff only knows views...and sound in here, ruff. Ruff wanted to go outside at least once, ruff.

-Ruff

Don’t worry. Now you can go out.

-Rose

Zenebatos[]

Rose gazes upon the location of the Signet Sphere of Zenebatos.

In Zenebatos, despite making it to the Signet Sphere, the group is too late, as it has been broken already. Zieg descends down and taunts the group, rejoicing upon the upcoming birth of the God of Destruction. Rose, witnessing this, believes that the person is not Zieg, and that they will find out the truth at the location of the last Signet Sphere.

He is not Zieg.

Mayfil[]

Mayfil, the ancient Death City of the Winglies.

Mayfil, the ancient Death City of the Winglies.

As the group arrives in Mayfil, Rose wonders at why the area is still active, as they completely destroyed it during the Dragon Campaign to prevent the Winglies from playing with souls.

As they traverse through the city, Dart and Rose arrive in a room where souls gather around Rose.

Rose, however, uses the light of her Dragoon Spirit to chase the souls away, and affirms that she cannot die yet.

Hate me if you want, but I cannot die now. (Please wait until everything is over.)

-Rose

Later, when the group meets the spirit of Lavitz, Lavitz also points out that a lot of souls know Rose.

Rose, there are many souls who know you. Yes, there are countless...

Eventually, the group is unsuccessful in preventing Zieg from destroying the Signet Sphere, making the Moon That Never Sets fall from the skies. The group, however, decides to keep fighting and pursuing Zieg, as the Moon did not receive Shana yet.

Yes. We can still struggle. The moon has not obtained Shana yet!! Let's go pursue Zieg!!

Virages emerge from the Moon That Never Sets, after it fell onto the Divine Tree.

As the group suffers a crash landing on the foot of the Divine Tree, Rose watches the emerging Virages from the Moon.

Everything is turning out just as Zieg wished. The seal of the moon was broken, and the terribly disastrous plan laid by Soa finally has started. Those Virages are mere advance guards for the primary Virage Embryo. It seems the birth of the God of Destruction will only be a matter of time.

-Rose

While climbing up the Divine Tree, Dart and Rose find a dried up fruit. Dart wonders whether actually all life has emerged from fruits like these. Upon traversing the area, Dart and Rose have a few conversations about the creation of the different species.

Only the creator Soa knows that. So, it's just a legend for us. But, we are standing on the Divine Tree which supposedly was in the same legend. We'd better believe it.

The Moon That Never Sets, connected to the Divine Tree with streams of energy.

As the group arrives at a stream of energy towards the Moon, Rose theorizes that the stream of energy is indicative of the Divine Tree sending energy for the birth of the God of Destruction.

This stream.... It seems like it is sending a vital force to the Moon That Never Sets. It must be that the Divine Tree is getting ready to give birth to the God of Destruction.

Moon That Never Sets[]

Upon entering the Moon That Never Sets, the group is engulfed into a strange sphere and lands in a natural surrounding. Although Dart wonders whether they were sent back to the mainland, Rose assumes that they are inside of the Moon, as the heartbeat of the Virage Embryo is audible.

Listen. It's the heartbeat of the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction. An empty body that is the living corpse from which the soul was taken out by ancient Winglies on the day it was conceived in the Divine Tree.... We must be in the moon.

Later, the group lands at an inhabitated location with a hotel and shops, resembling a building in Serdio. There, Rose draws her sword and appears to inflict a minor wound to herself to confirm that this is indeed the reality.

You feel pain, it is certain this is not just an illusion. This world is reality.

-Rose

Upon traversing the Moon, the group is suddently attacked by a Dragon that Rose recognizes.

Michael! No! I couldn't have been mistaken! I was with him for more than 10,000 years! It was the Vassal Dragon, my Dragon!

A Pseudo Dragon in the Moon That Never Sets.

Dart and Rose are seperated from the rest of the group and land in an area resembling the Mountain of Mortal Dragon. There, Rose affirms her trust in everyone else to Dart, and also tells Dart about Pseudo Dragons they meet.

This is a baby dragon. It was called a Pseudo Dragon. It seems everything, including the future and past, exist here. My favorite Pseudo Dragon didn't make it to the present age. But I am encountering the past now. But, we don't have time to be sentimental. Let's go.

-Rose

Rose tells Dart that someone appears to be calling her from the top of the Mountain. There, they find the fossilized body of Michael. Rose, seeing this, remembers the birth of her vassal Dragon, and how she obtained the Dragoon Spirit of the Darkness Dragon before the Dragon Campaign. In her flashback, she sacrifices the Darkness Dragon for the Dragoon Spirit, and the dying Dragon gives birth to a new Dragon. Rose names the newly born Dragon Michael.

Darkness Dragon.... Sorry. We don't have time. Winglies are mighty. Mighty enough to annihilate us, and the entire species. In order to liberate Humans, we have to sacrifice you, Dragon.

-Rose

Rose's Vassal Dragon, the Darkness Dragoon, the Black Burst Dragon, Michael. It's a good name. So now we can go.

Suddently, the fossilized body of Michael starts moving and forces Dart and Rose to a fight. Rose tries to get Michael to recognize her, but to no avail, as the Dragon has turned completely savage and uncontrollable. Struggling with herself, Rose eventually tells the Dragon's only weak point, its core that exposes itself after firing the lasers. Dart and Rose eventually attack the core, and make the vision of Michael disappear. Afterwards, Rose tells the dramatic story of her having had to kill her own Dragon.

A Dragon's body is capable of enormous endurance. But, its heart is not. After many fights, it becomes savage, and starts to blindly attack people and in the end, it won't listen to the orders of Dragoons either. That's why I killed Michael!! I killed him with these hands!!

-Rose

A short moment before entering the core of the Moon, a room shows a vision of a Super Virage while Shana's voice talks directly into the hearts of the group.

-The God of Destruction talking into the minds of Dart and his group.

The group encounters a Super Virage, serving as a gatekeeper. They overcome the creature, but afterwards, Dart wonders whether the Super Virage might have been Shana. Rose states that she doesn't believe so, but Dart presses her on why she is so certain. Albert, however, intervenes and tells Dart to pull himself together.

Finally, at the core, Zieg Feld shows himself and knocks the Dragoon Spirit of the Red-Eye Dragon away from Dart. Rose tells Zieg that he does not deserve to rule Dragons anymore, but to her shock, the Spirit still recognizes Zieg. After the group finally defeats Zieg, the true mastermind behind everything reveals himself: Melbu Frahma, the ancient dictator of the Winglies, who sealed his soul inside Zieg's Dragoon Spirit when he was killed by Zieg in the Dragon Campaign, and who took control over Zieg when he used his Dragoon Spirit during the events of Neet. Melbu Frahma enters the core and merges with the body of the God of Destruction, releasing Shana.

Suddently, Lloyd appears and fights against Melbu Frahma alongside Dart, but is killed. As Lloyd dies, he gives the Dragon Buster to Rose. As the group prepares for the final battle with Melbu Frahma, Rose watches over the unconscious Zieg. When Dart speaks to her, she affirms that she is ready any time for the final battle.

Finally, after the long battle, Melbu Frahma perishes in the flames. Rose flies towards Zieg, who has come around and apologizes for keeping her waiting for so long.

Rose, the time has come. This is the end of our long journey. Could you come with me?

Rose promises to never leave Zieg again, and charges towards Melbu Frahma with the Dragon Buster, impaling the core of the God of Destruction's body. Rose and Zieg unleash a final, sacrificial and suicidal attack to destroy the God of Destruction.

Dart, I'm so glad I met you! My role has ended. Place the weights of the future by yourself!

As the rest of the group flees the Moon together with Shana, Rose and Zieg perish in the explosion, saying their final farewells. After the entire Moon perishes in a giant explosion, Dart and his fellow Dragoons watch from afar. Dart, seeing this, shouts out Rose's name and "father" for one last time.

Epilogue[]

The bird with the dark feathers aligning next to the bird with red feathers on remains of the Divine Tree in the ending.

During the destruction of the Moon That Never Sets, Rose and Zieg die in the explosion along with Melbu Frahma. However, throughout the entire epilogue FMV, a seagull is shown flying all over Endiness, including Rouge, Ulara, Deningrad, Lohan, Fletz, Bale and Seles, watching what the surviving six companions of Rose are doing after the events of the game. If watched carefully, the seagull has a dark blue stripe on it's tail. In the final scene after the credits, another seagull is sitting on a dead branch of the Divine Tree. The second seagull has a red stripe on its tail, and considering the color it may be a hint that the red tailed seagull is the spirit of Zieg, while the other one is Rose.

The epilogue can thus be interpreted in a way that Rose's spirit lives on in the seagull, and the places she visited before can be understood in a way that she visited her old companions in the now-peaceful times, where the grand plan of the creator Soa to destroy the world has come to a definitive end. After that, it looks like Zieg and Rose are finally reunited, as the two seagulls sit together on the tree. This is strongly hinted at the fact that, below the two birds, the Dragoon Spirits of the Red-Eye Dragon and of the Darkness Dragon, that have the same color as the feathers of the birds, lie next to each other.

Trivia[]

  • According to The Legend of Dragoon Official Guidebook, Rose is 170cm (5'6") tall, and is physically 26 years old.
  • If left idle while on the Queen Fury, Rose will wrap her arms around her chest and stand perfectly straight and still.
  • When the player has control of her in Neet, she will not perform an idle pose no matter how long the player waits.
  • When defending, Rose holds her rapier diagonally in front of her body.
  • When dispirited, Rose slouches forward with her head down while standing and lazily holds her rapier, having lost the will to hold it up.
  • When in Critical Health, Rose kneels down and slouches forward.
  • In the Japanese manual's credits, Rose is credited as "Ros'e".[1] This may have been done due to a lack of font handling for accented characters. An apostrophe technically works because of it representing a glottal stop, which would mean a final letter would be pronounced rather than silent. However, an appropriately accented character would make it "Rosé" more in line with Western typography and as a real word often in reference to a rosé wine as a pink rather than strictly red or white wine.
