-The manual

Dart Feld (ダート・フェルド, Dāto Ferudo) is the protagonist of The Legend of Dragoon. He is the son of Zieg Feld and Claire Feld, and was one of the few survivors of the tragedy that befell his hometown of Neet, in which the mysterious Black Monster attacked and destroyed the town 18 years before the events of the game. Years later, Dart would set out to seek out revenge on the creature who destroyed his hometown.

Character Design[]

Dart has short spiked blonde hair with fringes in each sides, and blue eyes. He usually wears a red headband.

His trademark is a vibrant red armor with a single gauntlet on the left and a black high-neck undershirt, blue-gray pants with a brown belt along with a matching side belt on his waist and red knee-pads on his knees and dark brown leather boots with beige folded sleeves. He also wears dark brown gloves and wields a sword. In his CGI art, his pants appears to be black instead of blue gray.

As a child during the tragic event in his hometown in Neet, he wore a brown winter jacket with a white high-neck undershirt, dark green pants and black shoes.

In his Red-Eye Dragoon form, Dart's appearance is identical to his father Zieg in his Dragoon form who wears the red Dragoon armor with a green gem in the center of the chest, matching greaves, blue green pants and a light red knee-high Dragoon armor boots with a green gem in the center. He also wears a matching gauntlets and his sword transforms into a Dragoon Sword. His red headband is brighter and with a dragon motif, while his Dragoon wings are pale green and light red with blue green outlines.

WARNING: The following part contains spoilers.

In his Divine Dragoon form, his Dragoon armor envelops his entire body, resembling the Divine Dragon's appearance. The armor is white with red and orange accents with an olive green gem with red line in the center of his armor, resembling the Divine Dragon's eye. His left arm becomes like a "cannon", similar to the Divine Dragon Cannon, with dark red outlines. He further wears a reddish-orange headband with seven green gems on its forehead and a green optic eyepiece on his left eye. His Dragoon armor boots with round, reddish-orange designs resembles a dragon's feet and his six Dragoon wings are of glowing orange and white with gray outlines. In his right hand, he wields a mighty Sword that resembles a sharp dragon fang-like blade with light red outlines.

Personality[]

Dart is a young man whose life turned tragic when an attack on his village wiped out everything he holds dear. Although his heart is heavy, Dart has a positive and idealistic outlook on life and will always help a friend in need. His loyalty and unwavering bravery stand out throughout his adventure. While otherwise straightforward and practical, during his travels as a Dragoon he accepts and expresses his feelings for Shana, treats each of his companions with respect and camaraderie, and eventually comes to a closure about his past.

Gameplay[]

Abilities and Attributes[]

Dart is the all-rounder in the party. Literally being average in all of his stats with the exception for his above average HP, Dart has a high survivability, making him a solid and consistent contributor throughout the entire game, enhanced by the fact that he is a permanent and non-replacable part of the player’s battle group. He also is the male character with the strongest Magical Attack and Magical Defense.

Among the cast, Dart also has the highest amount of Additions, with almost all of them having the potential of being useful at some point in the game. While some Additions deal high damage and give only a small amount of SP (such as Volcano or Moon Strike), others give high SP at the cost of lower damage (Burning Rush and Madness Hero). His 4th Addition, Crush Dance, can be seen as a solid all-around addition. Having by far the longest play time of all characters, Dart has the potential to master all of his Additions and unlocking his Final Addition without the need of any specialized Addition grinding, and is almost guaranteed to reach Dragoon Level 5 during the regular course of the game as long as the player is able to pull off his additions consistently.

Dart’s Fire Element can also be seen as beneficial, considering that a decent amount of enemies in the game are of the Water Element. This comes particularly in effect when using his Dragoon form and Dragoon Magic, which is simple yet effective. All of his magical spells deal damage to single or multiple enemies with no further effect. Given his decent Magical Attack, Dart can deal high damage as a Dragoon, most notably with Final Burst.

Overall, Dart has no outstanding strengths, but no noteworthy weaknesses either. He shines the brightest when good use is made of his Fire Element and Dragoon form, and is arguably the most consistent and least polarizing character of the cast.

Dart's Stats[]

The following table lists Dart's stats in steps of 10 Levels up to Level 60:

Level HP AT DF M AT M DF
10 300 22 23 14 10
20 1077 47 48 46 48
30 2168 72 73 71 71

50 5801 122 123 121 121
60 7500 150 150 150 150

Dart's Speed is 50, which can be considered the average, although technically it is the third lowest (or fifth highest) in the cast.

The following table lists Dart's Weapons in order of attack power and discovery in the game:

Name Attack Price Source Effect

Fairy Sword 39 400 Ulara Gain 50% more SP
Claymore 44 500 Moon
Soul Eater 75 Polter Armor, Loner Knight Loses 10% HP each turn

Additions[]

Main article: Additions

Dart has the largest amount of Additions among the cast. His long play time allows him to level up his Additions consistently throughout the game, and gives him the possibility to unlock his Final Addition throughout the normal course of the game. His variety of additions can be changed specifically for certain battles and situations; some additions such as Volcano and Moon Strike deal high damage at the cost of a low SP gain, while some others like Burning Rush or Madness Hero are weaker, but gain at least a full Dragoon round upon completion.

His Final Addition is the third weakest (or fourth strongest) of the cast at a maxed 450% damage multiplier, but provides a very respectable 150 SP at the highest level.

Acquiring the Dragoon Spirit[]

Dart is the game's first playable Dragoon along with Rose. He originally has his spirit with him at the start of the game but is given access to it after the battle at Hoax. As Dart and Lavitz struggle against Kongol, Rose arrives and calls forth the spirit of the Red-Eyed Dragon. Dart bursts with the mystical energy of a Dragoon and knocks out Kongol. From there on, he has the ability to use his spirit.

Dragoon Transformation[]

To transform into his Dragoon form, Dart crosses both of his arms as the Red-Eyed Dragoon spirit activates in a form of white light that bursts into flames. His main outfit and weapon quickly transforms into his Dragoon form in flames as the flames itself forming Dragoon wings on his back and making his pose.

Dragoon Magic[]
Main article: Dragoon Magic

Dart's Dragoon Magic Spells of the Red-Eye Dragoon are exclusively offensive spells with no further effect. As Dart is the male character with the highest magical attack, Dart can deal high damage using his Dragoon Magic.

Acquiring the Dragoon Spirit[]

The spirit is obtained before the final battle of the game from Lloyd after the initial fight against Melbu Frahma.

Dragoon Transformation[]

To transform into a Dragoon, Dart carries the Divine Dragoon spirit on his left hand and raises it to activate in a flash of light. His entire main outfit is covered in a bulkier armor in a glowing yellow light and forms six wings on his back in a glowing purple light as it flashes in white to reveal his Divine Dragoon form while carrying both his Divine Dragoon Sword in a dragon-fang like blade motif and the Divine Dragon Cannon.

Dragoon Magic[]

The Divine Dragoon and the Divine Dragoon Magic spells are of No Element. This, however, gives the Dragoon Magic the unique property of dealing double damage against enemies of all other elements with the exception for non-elemental enemies, greatly enhacing its power (see Element for more details on how Elements work).

The Divine Dragoon uses the two strongest attacks the Divine Dragon himself uses. They are extremely strong, almost unrivaled in terms of their damage output relative to the MP used.

Story[]

As Dart is the main character of The Legend of Dragoon, the entire story of the game is closely tied to his personal journey, with Dart mostly being the center of the action. Therefore, for the story of Dart and the game itself, the reader shall be directed to the corresponding articles for the four chapters of The Legend of Dragoon:

Trivia[]

  • According to the Official Guidebook, Dart is 23 years old and 178cm (5'10") tall.
  • If left idle, Dart has two poses he will do, his first pose is he folds his arms around his chest, leans slightly and taps his foot. He leans slightly and puts his hand on his hip and taps his foot for his second poise.
  • When dispirited, Dart let's his sword hang freely and slouches forward with knees bent slightly.
  • When Dart is in Critical Health, he leans down on one knee and lets his sword hang freely.
  • When defending, Dart holds his sword horizontally in front of his face.
  • Dart is seen transforming into his Red-Eye Dragoon form three times outside of a player-controlled battle. The first scene is his first transformation as a Dragoon to defeat Kongol before he escapes. The second scene is where he blocks the vengeful elder Bardel Brother's magic, and the last is his failed attempt to strike on his father Zieg, who is possessed by Melbu Frahma, who however overpowers him with one blow.
  • It is unclear whether Dart realizes that Haschel is his grandfather. However, before the final battle against Melbu Frahma, Haschel told him about how he looks like Dart when he was young. Dart nods, although it is disputable if this gesture implies that he knows and realizes about his grandfather.
  • Dart is the only character with 2 dragoon spirits and 2 types of element in the entire game.
  • Dart was going to be in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale as a DLC alongside Abe from the Oddworld series. Character artist Mike Edwards even created a 3D model for the game (He published the renders in his website in June 27, 2013; see the gallery above) but developers canceled Dart due to low sales.
  • Dart's early field model had orange armor and long boots (video link on Youtube).
  • If the player uses a cheat device to obtain both the Divine Dragoon Spirit and Red Dragoon Spirit, Dart only uses the Divine Dragoon Spirit.
  • In some early screenshots, Dart's sword looks different. Its handle appears gray and the yellow pattern on it looks completely different. The interesting part is that this sword actually appears in the finished product. It can be seen very briefly during Dart's Divine Dragon transformation sequence when he holds up the spirit (screenshot). In said screenshots, his arms and legs looks way more blocky as well.
  • Dart makes a cameo appearance in Astro Bot.
