Story[]

As the daughter of the head of the Rouge School of Martial Arts, Claire underwent vigorous martial arts training by her father from a young age. In his memories, Haschel is shown to have been an extremely strict teacher, to the point of refusing to be called "father" by her during training, and insisting on being called "master" instead, and yelling at her in dissatisfaction about her skills and attitude.

During a sparring match with a fellow martial artist from the village, Lotta, Claire seriously injured or possibly killed her training partner after being repeatedly criticized and yelled at by Haschel. An outraged Haschel chased her away from the scene, and Claire left the village subsequently. Claire's fate is never fully resolved throughout the game.

I shouted out of anger. I was just running away from the pain that we have to overcome together, as a Master and as a Father. It's been 20 years since I left the village pursuing Claire, but what I have found was only my immaturity.

-Haschel

Claire was also shown to have a sweet and motherly side, as she composed and sang a lullaby in her teenage years she planned to devote to her future child. Decades later, this lullaby would play a crucial role in Haschel finding out about the fate of his daughter and her connection to Dart.

Battle in the Moon That Never Sets[]

See the main article Claire (Boss).

At a much younger age than shown in Haschel's flashbacks, Claire is later encountered as a solo boss fight and trial for Haschel. During this fight, Haschel comes to a closure about his past.

Connection to Dart[]

WARNING: Section contains spoilers.

See the main section Haschel as Dart's Grandfather

A lot of evidence in the game points at Claire being Dart's mother Claire Feld and the late wife of Zieg Feld.

At the beginning of Disc 2, first entering Tiberoa, one of the party notices that one of the town's bridges is named Claire Bridge. Dart says that it is his mother's name, and Haschel says that it is the name of his daughter, who he began looking for 20 years ago, and jokingly adds that there might be some secret connection between him and Dart. However, there is quick consensus within the group that this unlikely, based on the fact that the two look nothing alike. Haschel does not add anything to that, but his flashbacks show that Claire also looks little like him.

Early on Disc 3, At the mayor's house in Furni, Haschel listens as Shana sings a lullaby to the major's child Fa, and reflects that Claire once sang the same tune and declared that she would sing it to her future child. Shana tells Haschel that Dart used to sing it to her, to which a baffled Haschel says to himself, "So, it was not a coincidence for me to be here". Dart and Shana later reminisce about the song, confirming its source as a song Dart knew from childhood, giving the first real clue of the relationship of Dart and Haschel and indicating Haschel becoming aware of it.

Claire is the boss Haschel faces alone on the Moon That Never Sets. He tells Dart as he goes alone to face his challenge that "she doesn't know [him] yet", which can be interpreted that the version of Claire he faces is still young and hasn't given birth to Dart yet.

Finally, before the final battle of the game with Melbu Frahma, Haschel tells Dart that he looks just like him, when Haschel was younger.
