Dart and his companions approach Furni on the Queen Fury.

The third chapter of The Legend of Dragoon, Fate and Soul, opens on the prow of the Queen Fury with Dart and his companions watching as the town of Furni draws nearer across the waters.

The mercenaries being briefed about Kamuy.

The Queen Fury docks at the harbor of Furni, the gateway to Mille Seseau. As the group explores the city in their pursuit of Lloyd, they stumble upon a gathering of mercenaries, as Resident Knight Harris informs them of the objectives: Hunting down a white wolf named Kamuy that has been rampaging in the Evergreen Forest, and finding a boy named Teo who went missing.

After hearing that Dart's party restored safe shipping around Tiberoa by slaying the Sea Dragon, the man in the rent-a-boat freely gives them a licence to use the boat in the city.

From Tiberoa? With that huge boat? [...] Well, wait a minute. One, two, three... seven!! Could you be the famous Dart and companions who conquered the Sea Dragon in Illisa Bay? [...] Hon! Let the Mayor know about this!! He'll be happy to hear about this! Here it is! The License for the boat! Take it! [...] I have to thank you! Thanks to you, we can go fishing and go to Tiberoa! If you need anything, just drop by! We have accommodations too! I'll give you a good price!

-Man at the rent-a-boat

As Dart and his group make their way around Furni, they visit the mayor of Furni who introduces them to Fa, his daughter. Fa, he says, did not speak since she was allgedly attacked by Kamuy, and on that same night, Teo, who had kept Kamuy as a pet, disappeared. Teo ran away from the village, says the mayor, as he is assumed to feel guilty for hurting his best friend Fa. Dart and company agree to stay in the mayor's house for a night before leaving to seek out Teo and Kamuy.

Inside the mayor's house.

Inside the mayor's house.

The wolf is becoming more savage every day. Now, he has been joined by monsters from the Evergreen Forest, and they attack people! [...] But it is more complicated than that. The wolf called Kamuy that attacked Fa was kept by a boy of this village, until recently. And the boy who kept Kamuy named Teo has disappeared! On the night Fa was injured, Teo disappeared from his home. Probably he feels responsible and ran away. Teo has been Fa's friend since they were little. They are best friends.

On that night, after dinner, Shana is upstairs singing a lullaby to Fa. Haschel, on the stairs, overhears it, and remembers his daughter Claire singing the same tune and explaining that she made the song for her future children. Shana explains that the lullaby was sung to Dart as a child by his mother. Haschel is shocked at this and believes it was not a coincidence for him to be with the group, and decides to go out to get some air, apparently becoming well aware of his possible connection to Dart, having found out in Fletz before that his daughter had the same name as Dart's mother. Shana then joins Dart, who is looking at the Moon That Never Sets on the top of the house. They reminisce about their childhood at Seles. Suddenly, under the Moonlight, Shana resonates with the Moon and suffers an acute headache, collapses and is brought back into the building by Dart.

The next morning, Shana feels well again and the group leaves Furni. Crossing the canal and leaving the town, they begin their venture into the Evergreen Forest to search for Teo and Kamuy.

Evergreen Forest[]

The Evergreen Forest.

The heroes travel through the Evergreen Forest coming from Furni in order to reach the capital city of Deningrad to search for Lloyd and uncovering his plot. Proceeding through the forest, Dart and his group find Teo safe and unscathed, but at this moment, other warriors show up and scatter around him stating that they will return with him and to come with them, however, Kamuy, a large and wild beast, jumps towards the warriors and bashes them back, then escapes further into the woods with Teo mounting his back. Teo desperately asks for Kamuy to be left alone, explaining that Fa was attacked by another creature.

Dart and his group find Kamuy and Teo in a different part of the Forest. Upon approaching, the mercenary Bulgus appears and tries to attack Kamuy but is quickly thrown aside. A battle begins with Kamuy fatally wounded, much to Teo's sadness and distress. Shana, seeing this, uses the healing powers of the Dragoon Spirit of the White-Silver Dragon and saves Kamuy, with the creature turning into a small, docile and harmless wolf cub again. Resident Knight is relieved at Teo being safe and brings Teo, together with the now harmless Kamuy, back to Furni.

The group continues to Deningrad, where suddently Rose swiftly jumps across the cliff to the other side and tells the group that she needs to go and run some errands and that she would rejoin them in a little bit. At the same time, Meru attempts to back away slowly when Shana notices her seperating herself from the group. Meru then explains that she too has an errand to run, and only explains she needs to see her family again. Without Meru and Rose, Dart and his remaining companions make their way to Deningrad.

In their first visit to Deningrad, Dart and his group meet Bishop Dille in the church and hear about the story of the creator Soa and the Divine Tree. They speak to Librarian Ute, who invites them to the Mille Seseau National Library, where the group scatters to collect some knowledge about things such as Dragoons, Dragons, Winglies, Virages and the Dragon Campaign.

Legend of Dragoon - Cutscene 8 - History of the Dragoon Campaign

Librarian Ute sharing his knowledge about the Dragon Campaign.

There were 7 Dragoon warriors in the legend of the Dragon Campaign, dragoons reputed to be the incarnations of Dragons. With Dragons at their side, the dragoons fought boldy. However, in the age when the legend was reality, the Winglies dominated all, even the gods. The gods answered to dictator Melbu Frahma's prayers and granted him ultimate power; but, the power was abused. The earth of Saint Imperial Gloriano was scorched by the gods' fire and became ashen. The anger and sadness of the people was the fuel for the dragoons' cause. Then at last, they freed the gods. Without the gods' power, the Winglies perished and our age, the Human Age, began. Thereafter, the gods floated in the sky. For 11,000 years, they have been looking over the world as the Moon That Never Sets. That is the story.

-Librarian Ute

Upon revealing his past to Ute as a survivor from the tragic village of Neet, Ute tells a story about the Black Monster and recommends Dart to meet with Luanna, the Second Sacred Sister of Mille Seseau, who was also a survivor.

Why did the gods create him? The Black Monster... he appears in various legends, as a demon who rebels against and devours the gods, an evil plague that rejects peace in the world, the god that is the Moon That Never Sets. The Moon That Never Sets glows red every 108 years. It is a sign that a herald will be sent to earth, a herald is known to us as the Moon Child. The legend says the Moon Child revives the gods on earth and purifies the world. The Black Monster abhors, hates, and despises it, and kills the Moon Child. This sad karma is endless. This god stays forever in the sky, and the world is in never-ending chaos.

As the remaining group visits Deningrad's church and the Mille Seseau National Library, Rose is shown visiting the destroyed town of Neet. She finds Second Sacred Sister Luanna and the Fourth Sacred Sister Setie along with three Royal Guards from Mille Seseau. Luanna tells Rose that she survived the tragedy of Neet but she became blind in the process.

From her flashback, Luanna remembers the Black Monster pressuring her mother to reveal where Princess Louvia, the Moon Child, went, and saying that the Moon Child has a power to turn everyone into servants for the gods to descend. The Black Monster claimed everyone who was present at the Moon Child's "birth" should die, and killed Luanna's mother, but spared Luanna.

The chance to eliminate the Moon Child comes only once every 108 years. It's the time of birth when the moon glows a blood color. The newly born Moon Child has a magic power. That magic power changes everyone around into an evangelist for the god, a servant to help prepare for the descending of the god.

-The Black Monster in Luanna's memories

In the present, Luanna, however, gained the ability to see into people's souls to heal them. She offers Rose to heal the pain in her heart as well, but Rose says that it is not necessary. Rose then offers protection to the Sacred Sisters and returns back to Deningrad with Luanna, Setie, and the royal guards.

While Dart and his companions go to Deningrad, Meru visits her home, which is actually the Forest of Winglies. As she enters, she is immediately attacked by a fireball spell by the guardian, who actually is her old acquaintance Guaraha and in shock to see her back. Although Guaraha is happy to see her, he warns her that the other inhabitants of the forest might be less forgiving for breaching the taboo on leaving the forest.

Meru finds herself indeed not welcome at all, with many Winglies and particularly the Bardel Brothers shaming her for leaving the forest. The Ancestor Blano intervenes, but repeats the custom that it was not allowed for Meru to leave.

Leaving the forest is an unforgivable mortal sin. Didn't you know that when you left for the world of Humans? As well as that, you could never come back here. There are people who hate and detest Humans just because they are Humans, but their number is few. We just want to protect our life. That's all. Humans have always been afraid of the magic power of Winglies. The fear eventually turns itself into a need to tyrannize us, and take some action. Either to subjugate or kill Winglies. That's why we need our own world, like this forest, where Humans cannot enter. Go back to the other world. Your existence angers the others.

Although Meru's mother and father appear at the scene, they do not voice any disagreements, and Meru is sent away.

As Meru wants to leave the forest again, Guaraha snatches her from the air and talks to her one more time. Guaraha tells Meru that everyone is feeling tense due to the Divine Dragon coming back to life and the seal binding it dissolving. It also appears to be the reason why animals in the forest act savage, and on Meru's response that the Winglies should have the Dragon Buster and Dragon Block Staff, Guaraha says that the Dragon Buster, that was locked together with the Dragon Block Staff in a place only the Ancestor can open, was lost. Lastly, Guaraha begs Meru not to leave again and vows to protect her, but Meru goes off again, saying that her friends are waiting for her.

Deningrad (First Visit, Second Scene)[]

Outside of the Mille Seseau National Library, Dart and his companions have a last short conversation with Librarian Ute.

What are you going to do? Are you going to pursue that man, Lloyd? When you get time, go visit Neet. You cannot change the past, however, you can face it. By facing it, maybe you can find out where you are from and where you want to go.

-Librarian Ute

After Ute disappears back into the building, the group decides to wait for Rose and Meru. At this moment, however, Dart suddently feels a shiver, leans over and starts gasping for air. Albert confirmes that he also feels something is wrong. Dart and his group meet again with Rose, who went off a while before, and who accompanied Setie, the Fourth Sacred Sister, and Second Sacred Sister Luanna from Neet back to Deningrad. Upon meeting and exchanging a few words in the hotel, however, it is at this very moment Dart nearly loses his sanity to his Dragoon Spirit, as the Divine Dragon breaks free from his millenials old seal created by the Winglies.

War is not in human nature. Humans fight by making themselves enter insanity. It is...the same for revenge. This is a tool to amplify the insanity. And this insanity is the source of the power of Dragoons, the Dragon Knight. Someday, something will happen, and if you cannot chasten your insanity, I wonder if you will be able to endure it, given the meagerness of your spirit?

The Divine Dragon breaks out and flies over Deningrad, but only causes some minor damage. After these scenes, Meru, who went off as well to the Forest of Winglies, meets Dart and the others in front of the Crystal Palace. Dart and his group are introduced by Luanna and Setie to Queen Theresa as well as the First and Third Sacred Sisters of Mille Seseau, Miranda and Wink. As Queen Theresa requests the help of the Dragoons to fight the Divine Dragon, Rose explains the need for an ancient Wingly weapon used to lower the power of Dragons, the Dragon Block Staff, and suggests that Meru might know something about the location of it. Meru reveals that it is in the Forest of Winglies in the north of the Evergreen Forest, and that Winglies actually were not extinct. As the group sets out, Shana is mysteriously drawn to a mysterious room with a spherical object next to the throne room of the Crystal Palace, and loses her power over the Dragoon Spirit of the White-Silver Dragon, which subsequently chooses Miranda as its new wielder. Miranda reveals that the Crystal Palace used to be an ancient fort of the Winglies before the Dragon Campaign, and the room is said to have been used in a ceremony to seal something. Without Shana, the group sets off to retrieve the Dragon Block Staff. Before leaving, the group gives some encouragement to Shana.

Second Visit to the Forest of Winglies[]

Main article: Forest of Winglies

After the awakening of the Divine Dragon, Dart and his group consult with Queen Theresa and the Sacred Sisters of Mille Seseau on what to do, and on the recommendation of Rose, go on to search for the Dragon Block Staff. In the Evergreen Forest, Meru reveals to the group that she is a Wingly herself, and opens up the portal into the Forest of Winglies.

In the Forest, they encounter three Winglies who discuss that according to the ancestor, cooperation with other species will be necessary to prevent their extinction and to fight against the Divine Dragon. Upon seeing Meru, Dart and the others, one Wingly immediately flies off to inform the ancestor, while the other two stay on guard. The ancestor declares he wants to meet with the Humans, and Dart and his group walk through the Wingly community without resistance, until the Older Bardel Brother confronts them, hurling a fireball at them. Dart transforms into the Red-Eyed Dragoon and counters the spell; the Bardel brother, overcome by the sight of his magic resisted so easily, falls to his knees and loses the will to fight. The Younger Bardel finds him later, knocks him down to the ground and vows revenge on the humans for killing his little sister, who also left the forest in the past.

In the Forest, the group also meets with Meru's parents, who after a short conversation express some sympathy for Dart and Meru's friends. Upon meeting Guaraha, who is on probation due to letting Meru pass through, it is revealed that Guaraha is actually her fiancée. Meru affirms that she will be alright, together with Dart and her friends, and gives a slight poke at the obedient attitude of Guaraha before leaving.

Eventually, Dart and his friends meet Ancestor Blano, who welcomes them and tells them about the need to cooperate in order to survive against the Divine Dragon.

Welcome. Humans and Giganto. I am Blano the Ancestor of the forest. [...] The Divine Dragon came back to life in the Mountain of the Mortal Dragon, and there are Dragoons that have come to us. It seems that the times won't leave us alone. The messenger from the Crystal Palace, and the people who were fated to come here.... Our opponent is so enormous. We have to combine each of our strengths or none of us will survive. Neither the Crystal Palace nor our forest. [...] Let us put the power of the Dragoons and our wisdom together. [...] We don't have the Dragon Buster now. So the Dragon Block Staff is our last resort. We no longer have the power to master that, however, if you, who rule the Dragons can use it, we can fight against the Divine Dragon.

-Ancestor Blano

Dart and his group being teleported to the Forbidden Land from the top of the Forest.

The ancestor brings them as close as he can to the Dragon Block Staff; they go to the top of the Forest of Winglies, where a complex of ramps and towers stands below the Moon That Never Sets. He directs Dart and his group to the Forbidden Land, telling them a bit about its history.

The Dragon Block Staff is sealed in the Forbidden Land over there. It is the place where our hideous memory sleeps. It used to be, until 11,000 years ago, a palace for us Winglies and it was the place where eternal prosperity was promised. It was called the royal capital Kadessa. Now it is a mere ruin without a name.

-Ancestor Blano

The Ancestor opens a twisting tunnel of shifting metallic rings that leapfrog their way across the sky, carrying the group all the way to the ruins of the ancient Wingly capital showing both the ruination of the war and the grand architecture of the civilization that preceded it.

Dart and his group make their way through the desolate shell of the ancient royal capital. Despite mere ruins over 11,000 years old, they find several traces from the Dragon Campaign and the age of the Winglies, such as a colosseum, where oppressed species such as Dragons, Humans and Gigantos fought each other for the amusement of spectators, much to the distress and sadness of Meru.

I heard it from the Ancestor. Once upon a time, it was a coliseum. But it wasn't for regular fights that you won or lost. It was for matches to the death. Winglies would just enjoy the view from above...or fighters picked from among the dominated Humans, Dragons, and some Gigantos. I am the offspring of that kind of Wingly.

-Meru

To this, Dart and Albert encourage Meru and tell her that the sins of the past are merely a warning to not repeat them anymore. The group proceeds and also finds a room with symbols of different species born from the Divine Tree, in which the group enters the teleporters in their order of creation in order to progress. After Dart and his group solve the riddle, they progress to an area where they find the body of a Super Virage that itself fought in the final battle of the Dragon Campaign. Despite being massively mutilated, it awakes and attacks the Dragoons, who fight and destroy it for good.

Eventually, Dart and his group arrive at the location where the Dragon Block Staff is. Miranda comments about it looking unspectacular, but Rose emphasizes that its strength cannot be judged by its appearance and that it sealed the Divine Dragon for over 10,000 years. As Meru flies up to get it, suddently its guardian, the Grand Jewel, emerges and forces the group to a fight.

After the fight, the Dragoons finally receive the Dragon Block Staff. As they make their way back down, they suddently notice a massive shadow over the location, with the Divine Dragon flying over it and going on a vengeful rampage to Deningrad. The group rushes back to the Forest of Winglies, where Ancestor Blano immediately tries to teleport them there, however, he fails in doing so, as his magical power alone is insufficient. However, with the support of Guaraha and Meru's parents, who come to the aid, he succeeds in sending them to Deningrad.

Although Dart and his group are successful in finding the Dragon Block Staff and are teleported back to Deningrad, they arrive too late, as the Divine Dragon goes on a vengeful rampage before they are able to face it off in a battle. It destroys the majority of the town with its Divine Dragon Ball attack, and then destroys the Crystal Palace with its Divine Dragon Cannon. During the collapse of the tower's top parts, a bright spherical light flashes and ascends towards the Moon, as the "sealing chamber" from before has been destroyed. However, Shana, Queen Theresa and the Sacred Sisters are miraculously unharmed, as Shana filled the throne room in a mysterious bright light.

The city is now in ruins, however, a significant amount of the population appears to have survived the Divine Dragon's raid unharmed, although building such as the church, or the Mille Seseau National Library suffered major damage. Dart and his companions rush to the Crystal Palace and find Setie and Luanna unconscious but unharmed, and Wink unharmed as well further above. Dart is in distress as he sees that the chamber where Shana rested has collapsed, but Wink assures him that Shana is in the throne room with Queen Theresa.

Miranda is so relieved to see Queen Theresa well that she starts to cry, whereas Shana is in worry and unrest about her mysterious power, despite her bringing a miracle. In her distress, Shana faints, and is brought to the hotel of Deningrad, where she rests. Dart and his group set out to the Mountain of Mortal Dragon to confront the Divine Dragon.

As Dart and his group make their way through the Mountain of Mortal Dragon, they realize that there are traces from a fight, judging from a relatively fresh corpse of a Dragon at the foot of the mountain. They work their way up through caves and cliffs and witness the massive magical power unleashed by the Divine Dragon, and upon approaching his lair at the top, they hear the clash of swords, indicating that someone has already begun to fight the Dragon.

Dart and his group indeed find Lloyd at the top of the mountain, who started to fight against the Divine Dragon using the Dragon Buster, however, he is unable to overcome the Divine Dragon. As the King of Dragons appears before them, Dart and his companions make an all-out charge on the Dragon and use the Dragon Block Staff to greatly weaken its power. However, even with this, the Divine Dragon is a formidable opponent, and only after a long fight, Dart deals a finishing blow and the Divine Dragon plummets to the ground.

At this moment, Lloyd re-appears, jumps over some pillars and uses the Dragon Buster to slice the large eye of the Divine Dragon at its chin, dealing the killing blow. At this moment, a bright spark flashes, as the soul of the Divine Dragon manifests itself in its Dragoon Spirit. Lloyd obtains the spirit, however, he is unable to use its power, as it does not react to him.

This is the soul of the Divine Dragon. The flame of a soul that sparkles only at the last moment of a dragon's life...its crystal is the Dragoon Spirit! As I expected, it doesn't sparkle in my hands. [...] This is just a little prize for me. [...] I don't need additional power to destroy the world. The Divine Dragon was a mere obstacle to my ideal. I fought against it for that reason only.

-Lloyd

Lloyd quickly runs off and the group gives chase to him. In the caves, he casts a fire ball spell towards Dart and Rose, revealing himself as a Wingly. Dart and Rose fall off the cliff together, where Rose, barely conscious, speaks cryptic words upon seeing the face of Dart.

I thought...you were dead. Don't worry, I am carrying out your will. We took this world back together, I won't let them ruin it. Virage... embryo. The moon... with black power.

-Rose to Dart

Upon this, Dart wonders whether Rose is speaking about the Black Monster and remembers the happenings at Neet, when he escaped the village alongside his father and mother, however his parents went back into the village and never came back.

'Count 108 years, and when the Moon That Never Sets glares red, the Moon Child descends to the earth to give a holy blessing to the world.' Fester said.... What really appears is not the Moon Child, but the Black Monster. What kind of relationship exists between the Black Monster who destroys all and the Moon Child who blesses the world? Rose, what do you know about this?

-Dart

Meru uses her wings to fly down the cliff and to pick up Dart and Rose, who regained her consciousness. Albert speculates that Lloyd may now be behind the Divine Moon Object of Mille Seseau, which persuades Miranda to tell the story about the Moon Mirror.

I guess, there is no choice but to tell everything. The Divine Moon Objects are said to be brought by Winglies. And, it is said that they have a dreadful magic power concealed within. That is the reason why they were never allowed to be taken outside. A national treasure that has been kept a close secret. It is called the Moon Mirror. The successive thrones have been the keys to opening the seal. Oh, it cannot be!

-Miranda

At this moment, Miranda realizes that Lloyd may be after Queen Theresa, and the group rushes back towards Deningrad. Inbetween, in the Evergreen Forest, they do find the head of royal guards that accompanied Wink when she was attacked by the Younger Bardel and protected from Lloyd. He brings the message that Queen Theresa was indeed taken away by Lloyd. Dart and his group rush back to the Crystal Palace to find out more.

After the events on the Mountain of Mortal Dragon, Lloyd abducts Queen Theresa on his quest to retrieve the Moon Mirror, Mille Seseau's national treasure, by using Wink's trust after saving her from the Younger Bardel to get into the Crystal Palace. Wink reveals that while she was on a patrol together with some guards to confirm the defeat of the Divine Dragon, she and her troops were attacked by the vengeful Wingly but protected by Lloyd. To treat Lloyd's injuries, Wink offered him to accompany her to the Crystal Palace, where, upon being demasked by Luanna, abducted Queen Theresa.

Miranda reveals that the Moon Mirror is sealed inside the Tower of Flanvel in the Kashua Glacier, with Queen Theresa herself being the key of opening the chamber to access it. Dart and his group venture towards the Kashua Glacier to give pursuit to Lloyd.

After finding about about the abduction of Queen Theresa, Dart and his group give pursuit to Lloyd, after Miranda reveals that the Moon Mirror, the Divine Moon Object and national treasure of Mille Seseau, is stored in the Tower of Flanvel in the Kashua Glacier.

Upon arriving, Meru and Haschel complain about the bitter cold, but Miranda attempts to console them. She goes on to explain how, as a child, she used to go to the Glacier for solace and reveals that Queen Theresa is not her biological mother and how her actual mother abandoned her, and how Queen Theresa kindly took her in as if she was one of her own children. After a pause, they then proceed deeper into the glacier to chase after Lloyd.

The heroes descend deep into the glacier by climbing down between ice walls and hopping from one pillar shaped chunk of ice to another. Once they reach the bottom, the Tower of Flanvel is ahead, however, the group is confronted by the monster Windigo.

Making their way past the no-hostage-taking Windigo in the Kashua Glacier, Dart and his companions reach the Tower of Flanvel and work their way upwards. Near the top, the Dragoon Spirit of the Divine Dragon resonates with Dart's Dragoon Spirit of the Red-Eye Dragon. In the chamber, by using Queen Theresa to unseal the Moon Mirror, Lloyd gathers all three Divine Moon Objects and announces the readiness of Emperor Diaz's plan to build a Utopia by giving birth to the 108th race, the final fruit of the Divine Tree.

Here they are. I just got all three Divine Moon Objects. Now the world will be reborn into the utopia that Emperor Diaz and I desire. [...] The revolutionary plan created by the great will, Soa. And the flow of evolution woven by the Divine Tree. You Humans are merely the 106th in the plan. And...we Winglies are the 107th in the plan. I desire the 108th evolution! I desire a utopia created by the last species! For that, I will use every conceivable means! I'll let my sword say the rest. Shall we finish up?!

-Lloyd

Finally, Dart and his group confront Lloyd in battle and emerge victorious. As Dart intends to deal the finishing blow to an exhausted Lloyd, Wink dashes in front of Lloyd and protects him, suffering a deep gash in her back, pleading with Dart to spare him.

After the battle, all other group members go outside to wait for Dart, including Albert, despite having a score to settle with Lloyd for killing Lavitz.

I trust Dart with everything. He will bring us the right answer.

-Albert

Wink delivers the message to Dart that Shana was taken away by Emperor Diaz in Deningrad, who asks to bring all Divine Moon Objects to Vellweb. Defeated, Lloyd surrenders the Divine Moon Objects to Dart and asks him to finish the mission, and is ready to be killed, but Dart drops his weapon and punches the weakened Lloyd to the ground, saying that killing him will not bring any dead friends back. Outside the tower, after reuiniting, Miranda requests of Queen Theresa for the party to keep the Moon Mirror.

I understand. I will let you have the Moon Mirror. Maybe we were in denial, surrounding ourselves with a comfortable life that really was stagnant. Yes, we Humans are not the only species....and all species were given life by Soa's plan. Now is the time to remember. The assault of the Divine Dragon, the existence of Winglies, the Divine Moon Objects, the utopia that Lloyd and Emperor Diaz desire.... And you, Dragoons. Everything is forcing us to remember it. As if things were manipulated by some great will called fate.

-Queen Theresa

At the bottom of the tower, a few royal guards of Mille Seseau escort Wink, Queen Theresa and Setie, who came alongside the soldiers, back to Deningrad. Dart asks one more question to Lloyd on why he saved Wink twice, to which he responds that he had no particular reason. Alongside Lloyd, the group heads to Vellweb.

After it is revealed in the Tower of Flanvel that Emperor Diaz abducted Shana in Deningrad, Dart and his group decide to meet Diaz personally. They traverse the Snowfield together with Lloyd and as a Blizzard comes up, the group rests inside a cave, where Lloyd reveals the backgrounds of his plot.

Lloyd meets Emperor Diaz in the Forbidden Land.

He tells the story of him meeting with Emperor Diaz in the Forbidden Land three years ago, where Diaz told him about the decay of the world and the loss of magical power and his plans to create an utopia by giving birth to the 108th species.

The world now is rotten, like a fallen fruit. It has the same smell as the world ruled by Melbu Frahma, the Wingly dictator. The world... where inertia is considered to be peace, and the easy path leads to devolution. The overture to the destruction has already begun. [...] It is the danger all species are facing. [...] You Winglies are merely the 107th species. The great will, the creator Soa prepared the last...the 108th species. The last species is the last god, which will regenerate the world and lead us to utopia!

-Emperor Diaz to Lloyd

Rose objected to the story that the Moon Child would bring peace to the world, but would not elaborate further. As Dart presses Lloyd on why he abducted Shana, he insists that the truth will be revealed in Vellweb.

In the Snowfield, Dart and his group find a stone with glowing writing in the languages of Humans, Winglies and Gigantos. Meru, Dart and Kongol each recognize the script of their respective races, and Dart asks Rose for help reading it.

The cursed land where the decline of the Winglies began. Nobody is allowed to touch the door. The judge Nomos of the court of Zenebatos.

-The sign before the entry to Fort Magrad

As the group progresses through Fort Magrad, Meru playfully throws a snowball at Dart, whereas Rose is in deep thought and remembers scenes from the past. At the point where you can see the arena from the hill top, Rose has a memory of Emperor Diaz rallying the tens of thousands of troops for the Dragon Campaign.

Diaz: "What we desire is freedom!! Or give us death!!"
Liberation Army of Humans: "God bless Diaz!! God bless Gloriano!!"
Diaz: "I am to bring light to the Humans' future! I am to pass judgment on the past of the Winglies! I am Diaz!!"
Liberation Army of Humans: "God Bless Diaz!! God Bless Gloriano!!"

Upon entering the arena, Rose walks towards a stone and kneels before it, remembering Emperor Diaz speaking with Zieg about her engagement to be married to Zieg after the war of liberation.

Diaz: "There is no guarantee of coming back alive."
Zieg: "Even if one of us dies, our bonds of affection are forever."
Diaz: "Your eyes are already looking at our future. I will realize the future for you."

As Rose stays kneeling there, Dart's questions about Rose pile up behind her odd behavior at the Fort, and he is moved to remark: "Sometimes... I wonder if you are the same Rose I know." Rose replies "I am just me", as ancient forces left over from the Dragon Campaign manifest: A sword that had been pierced into a stone levitates hovers above the ground in front of them. Unsurprised, Rose says the spirits of those who died long ago have awakened, and the fight with the Polter Armor begins.

As their final destination in Chapter 3, Dart and his group head to Vellweb together with Lloyd to discover the true identity of Emperor Diaz after his abduction of Shana. Much like Kadessa, the ruins are now home to monsters, and like the Valley of Corrupted Gravity, Vellweb is distorted by the remnants of magical power from the ancient days. While traveling through the city, Rose explains things about the old world, such as the Spear Shooter.

On the way to the throne room at the center of the city, the group comes across Shirley who asks for help releasing the souls of Kanzas, Belzac, Damia, and Syuveil, four of the Dragoons that died during the Dragon Campaign. However, Dart and his companions give priority to meeting Emperor Diaz first.

I have been waiting for you. [...] I had something I had to take care of here in Vellweb. I couldn't leave the trapped souls alone in this world. [...] The souls of the Dragoons that lost their lives during the Dragon Campaign. Their souls were drawn to Mayfil. The gate of the inferno from which you can never return, is requesting the souls of the Dragoons. [...] I don't know how, but it is true that the gate of the inferno is open. Rose, I made their souls inert and anchored them in this place. But there is a ilmit to my power. After you meet Diaz, please visit this place again. And lead their souls to heaven.

-Shirley

In the throne room, Dart and his companions and Lloyd finally meet Emperor Diaz, who makes a number of grand reveals. After passing the Divine Moon Objects over to him, he first agrees with releasing Shana, but when pressed by Rose on what the "utopia" means, he reveals that the birth of the 108th species, the Virage Embryo, is in fact a grand plot of destroying the world and purging it.

Lloyd. Well done bringing me the Moon Gem, Moon Dagger and Moon Mirror. Now we can let the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction, the last species we desire, the true Virage, arise. I will create the utopia you wanted, after the Virage Embryo purges the world.

Feeling like a fool for being treated as a mere puppet, Lloyd charges in at Diaz but is quickly engulfed in a magical sphere and sent into the abyss. Then, Emperor Diaz makes another shocking reveal, taking off his mask and revealing himself as Zieg Feld, Dart's father, and Rose's lover from the Dragon Campaign. Zieg reveals that his true intentions for gathering the Divine Moon Objects were to create a new world by destroying the current. Zieg continues and reveals his grand plan, his involvement in the Dragon Campaign, Rose's connection with the Black Monster, and Shana's true identity as the Moon Child.

"Now, I can tell you everything. The beginning of the world was an absolute nothingness... darkness. The Creator Soa sowed a seed to the earth. This is the plan of Soa, that created all species. The birth of the Divine Tree.... Eventually, the fruit of the Divine Tree ripened and fell to the ground to fill the world with life. Gigantos from the 97th fruit. Minintos from the 99th fruit. Dragons from the 105th fruit. Humans from the 106th fruit. Winglies with magic powers from the 107th fruit...And at the end, the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction, was to be born from the 108th fruit. Soa desired the destruction and regeneration of the world by the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction. However, 11,000 years ago, Winglies found out the tragedy waiting for them, and sealed the 108th fruit by separating the flesh and soul. The flesh of the god, the flesh of the Virage Embryo was taken away from the Winglies as the Moon That Never Sets that glows in the sky. And the soul of the god was captured in the Crystal Sphere and Melbu Frahma kept it. Yes, to withdraw unlimited magic power from that, and to conquer the other creatures. However, even with unlimited magic power, the domination was not eternal. Humans arose with Dragoons in front. Nothing was their match because they obtained the power of the dragon. And finally, they drove Melbu Frahma into a corner. I felt certain of human ...my victory. And it was in the next moment, the spell of petrification cast by Melbu captured me. I have waited for 11,000 years. Time, almost eternal, dissolved the spell of Melbu. And I was released from captivity. Days spent with Rose became the eternal past. And I lived as the father of Dart in this age. Until the tragic day in Neet.

[...] But, that's not all. Humans made a mistake. Silly humans destroyed the Crystal Sphere, which was the container of the soul along with the royal capital Kadessa. The Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction was exultant. It could now be born. The free soul released from the Crystal Sphere started to wander. In order to go back to the body left in the Moon That Never Sets, to be born as the last god, and to destroy the world. The soul without a body possesses a human body and heads for the Moon That Never Sets, by repeating the transmigration every 108 years. You now know. The soul of the God of Destruction is the Moon Child. The truth of the Moon Child in the legend. 'Count 108 years and when the Moon That Never Sets glares in red, the Moon Child descends to the earth and shall give a holy blessing to the world.' The 'Holy blessing' is the destruction. The destruction is Soa's will. This is...the fate that rules the future of the world.

But, there was one Dragoon who found out about it. In order to deter the birth of the God of Destruction, she has had to kill the Moon Children. By stopping her own time. She was even called a demon. That is the true self of Rose...The Black Monster!! ...All is the will of the god Soa...My hands start the world, and my hands end the world. Yes! Fate desires it."

On these revealings by Zieg, Dart is in deep shock and tells Rose to tell him that it isn't true, but Rose only replies that the Moon Child has to be killed and the people around it as well before they become the servants of the God of Destruction. To this, Zieg reveals one more thing, that Princess Louvia, who Rose assumed to be the Moon Child 18 years before the event of the game, was not the Moon Child. Instead, she had a twin sister, Shana, who is the actual Moon Child and destined to become the God of Destruction.

Rose tries to kill Shana, but is knocked back.

Rose tries to kill Shana, but is knocked back.

Let me tell you one more truth.”Rose, you thought the Princess Louvia you killed 18 years ago was the Moon Child, but it is not true. Louvia had a twin sister. Shana is the Moon Child!! Shana is...the soul of the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction!! I'll dissolve the Signet of the Moon That Never Sets, and cross it with the Moon Child. Now, I have everything in my hands.

-Zieg

In one last attempt to stop the birth of the God of Destruction, Rose charges at Shana in an attempt to kill her, but is struck back by magical powers. Zieg takes Shana and disappears with the Divine Moon Objects in his possession.
