Story[]

Prologue[]

The questioning the .

The Great Commander of Sandora questioning the Man in Hood.

The game begins with the village of Seles being invaded and destroyed by the army of Imperial Sandora. The whole village is burned to the ground, and Shana is taken into custody after resonating with a Moon-like gem. There is a short discussion between the Great Commander of Sandora questioning the need for such brutality and the Man in Hood, with the latter telling the Commander that retrieving the girl is the wish of Emperor Doel, the ruler of Sandora, and that the identity of the girl is none of his concern.

Meanwhile, a female warrior in dark violet clothing stands on a cliff, overlooking the land. She sees the Green-Tusked Dragon, Feyrbrand, and makes her way down towards the forest.

In a different part of the forest, Dart Feld, returning from a long travel, is sitting on a stump reading a bulletin about the increased likelihood of war.

Hmm, 'Chance of war more likely'. I hope it's just a rumor.

Dart suddenly hears some noise nearby. Checking it out, he is confronted by two Sandoran Soldiers, who question him on a possible alliance with the Kingdom of Basil. Dart draws his sword, ready to defend himself, however, they are all interupted by the Dragon Feyrbrand. The two soldiers flee, leaving Dart to fend for himself. He tries to run away, and is nearly killed when suddenly the female warrior shows up and saves him by pulling him behind a large rock. After Feyrbrand leaves, she tells him about the tragedy in Seles.

Dart, upon hearing about the destruction of his hometown, quickly makes his way there. As he leaves, the female warrior is suddently surprised by a gem she's wearing shining brightly.

From the top of a hill, Dart sees his hometown in ashes and rushes down. He witnesses a scene where remaining Sandoran Soliders taunt a villager and seek to kill him, but he intervenes and quickly kills them. Before dying, the villager tells him to "rescue Shana".

Before a burned down house at the center of the village, Dart finds Plos lying face down. He helps Plos to the house and tries to find out what happened to the town. Plos explains that abducting Shana was the objective for which Seles was attacked and that she has been taken somewhere. A Sandoran Commander and two soldiers appear and confront Dart with the Commander revealing that Shana was taken to Hellena Prison. After Dart defeats him and the Sandorans, Plos reassures Dart that the townspeople will be able to take care of the village. Dart also meets two children, Lowe and Isha, in the ruins behind Plos who enthusiastically respond to the plans to rebuild the town.

Before leaving, Dart meets his old master who taught him the way of the sword, Master Tasman. Before Dart leaves for Hellena, he is offered to train with his Master and to test his readiness to battle and perform Additions.

When Dart leaves Seles, a cutscene is seen where Shana is shoved into her prison cell in Hellena. The head warden of Hellena, Fruegel, aggressively presses the Man in Hood to reveals some information about her. However his curiosity is not satisfied, and upon questioning the Man in Hood's authority, the man draws his sword at Fruegel and issues a stern warning.

If you make a scratch on her, it'll cost more than your head. This is a message from Emperor Doel.

On his way to Hellena, Dart passes through the forest he and Shana used to play in frequently when they were younger. He meets a travelling merchant who can show him the use of magical attack items and remembers a scene when he protected Shana from a wild animal, reminding himself that it is now his duty to rescue her from Hellena.

When Dart arrives at Hellena Prison, a riding merchant makes his way towards the prison gate. Dart quickly hides behind a tree, and waits for him to pass. Once the merchant is out of sight, Dart proceeds towards the prison gate. As he gets closer, he notices that the cart is stopped and about to be inspected by a prison guard. When the guard makes his way towards the cart, Dart hides, and as the cart begins to enter in, Dart hops into the cart and is able to sneak in.

The merchant, however, finds him and immediately calls for a Hellena Warden. After the guard is defeated, Dart explains he intends no harm. The merchant then offers to keep quiet and sell Dart some of his supplies.

Once he is inside and out of the sight of any guards, he begins his search for Shana. Making his way through the prison, he comes across another warrior, Lavitz Slambert, the head of the First Knighthood of the Kingdom of Basil, trying to escape from the prison. After a quick clash, they find out that they are on the same side, fighting off further Hellena Wardens. Afterwards, Dart explains his situation to Lavitz, who decides to go with Dart, declaring that it will be hard for one man to survive Hellena alone.

Dart and Lavitz eventually come to a large room strongly guarded. They find the key to the Prison Tower on the second floor, in the room's upper section. While investigating the area near Shana's cell, they are caught by a large group of guards and a battle ensues. After the fight, Shana calls out, with Dart hearing her voice. Dart enters the cell as Lavitz stands guard and he and Shana have a intimate moment of reunion. As they exit the cell, more guards arrive and another fight begins.

Shana, insisting of being an adult now, picks up a bow and insists on fighting alongside Dart and Lavitz. As they seek to exit the place, they get in a fight with the head warden of Hellena Prison, Fruegel. Fruegel explains that the orders to capture Shana were issued by the Emperor Doel of South Serdio, but he added the order to destroy Seles. After a harsh fight, they emerge victorious but are unable to kill Fruegel. They quickly mount a few horses and ride off towards the Prairie, and Fruegel orders his men to give chase. At this moment, the Man in Hood appears and expresses his disappointment about Fruegel's failure. Fruegel vows to bring Shana back, while the Man in Hood tells to himself that despite of this, everything is going according to his plans.

Dart, Lavitz and Shana escape from Hellena Prison and make their way to the Prairie. As they are being pursued, Lavitz is hit in the leg by an arrow. Realizing that the guards will soon catch up to them, they decide to continue deeper into the Prairie. The trio makes a quick decision to hide behind a large tree surrounded by tall grass; however, the guards hear rustling and call out to them only to be fooled by a small creature. The guards argue and continue down the pathway and out of sight.

No longer being pursued, they make their way to a nearby shack where Shana treats Lavitz's injury. She asks Dart about the past five years he's been away, to which he explains that he's been pursuing a creature called the Black Monster and his motive of revenge for the destruction of the town he was born in. Dart reveals that he's not originally from Seles and that he originally from Neet, a village in the north. After he lost his parents to the hands of the Black Monster, the only thing he could find was a shiny stone his father always carried with him.

Lavitz mentions that he's never heard of the Black Monster, but he believes Minister Noish in Bale might. They discuss the current situation in Serdio and that the truce between the rivaling kingdoms had been broken by Imperial Sandora due to the apparent acquisition of a Dragon, allowing Sandora to be more aggressive. Dart tells them that on his way back to Seles, he was attacked by the Dragon and would have died were it not for a passing warrior. Now knowing that the Dragon is a very real threat, Lavitz concludes that his king Albert needs to know this information as quickly as possible. Together, they decide to make their way to Indels Castle in the town of Bale.

Currently, our Kingdom of Basil is at war with the Imperial Sandora. The war has spread all over Serdio. Because of the Dragon, the legendary monster added weight to Sandora and broke the balance of power. Then Emperor Doel started to be more aggressive.

-Lavitz

In order to leave the Prairie, the group crosses a rapidly flowing river by cutting down a tree on cliff, using a well-worn axe they find in the shack. However, after cutting down the tree, it falls down the cliff, with Dart and Lavitz unable to hold onto it. As they get to the river, though, the tree comes flowing and gets stuck at the right angle for the group to get on it to cross it.

On the way to the Limestone Cave, the group meets a family of Sandoran refugees. The father gets agitated at first, realizing Lavitz is from Basil, but changes his views when Lavitz gives food to his hungry son and tells them that King Albert is willing to help everyone. He then invites them to come to his house in Bale, as it is too large for Lavitz' mother to live there alone anyway.

After leaving the Prairie, Dart, Lavitz and Shana pass through the Limestone Cave in order to reach Bale. While making their way through the cave, the party comes across some stepping stones. As Dart and Shana make it safely past the stones, Lavitz suddenly slips and is dangling over the edge of the waterfall. Dart rushes over to help and successfully pulls Lavitz back up to safely. The two men thank and encourage each other, agreeing that they will have a long lasting friendship, while Shana feels left out.

Continuing through the cave, Dart and Lavitz teach Shana about Rock Fireflies and their healing powers. Towards the end of the cave, they witness a creature is waiting for them, possibly the rumored "guardian" of the cave. The creature, the insectoid Urobolus, attacks the group, but with their combined strength the group overcomes the moster. Once the battle is over, the party attempts to leave the cave, but suddenly, Urobolus springs back up once again and targets Shana. Dart rushes to her defend her but is halted by a strange bright light that starts to emit from Shana. The light vaporizes Urobolus, leaving Shana unharmed, while Dart and Lavitz are left baffled about what just happened.

Bale[]

When Dart and his companions arrive at Bale, Lavitz suggests seeing King Albert first and to tell him about Feyrbrand and Sandora's advance into Basil. They meet the king at Indels Castle, where Dart asks if Shana can stay at the castle out of harms way, much to Shana's disappointment. However, Albert explains that it is not possible, as no place in the country is safe anymore because of the Dragon. Dart retracts his request and asks Minister Noish about the Black Monster. Noish explains that he doesn't know many details about it, but that the Black Monster started appearing in history about 11,000 years ago, roughly at the same time the Dragon Campaign, a great liberation war, took place.

As if they were gods, Winglies ruled over all creatures and used them as slaves. The enslaved suffered a terrible domination and injustice. Their anger turned into a flame of fury. Then, a gust of wind blew throughout the lands, spreading the flame to a blazing fire. The wind was Emperor Diaz. Seven incarnations of Dragons served the emperor. Their bravery inspired people to take up arms. Thus began the Dragon Campaign. It was a harsh war. Both people and Winglies suffered countless injuries and fatalities. After a long period of suffering, it was the humans who acquired the future. The age of humans had begun.

-Minister Noish

A soldier walks in and tells Albert that the war council is ready to begin. Albert suggests that Dart and Shana enjoy the view from the balcony. Shana hastely excuses herself and Dart does the same to follow her.

On the balcony, Dart and Shana wonder how Seles is. Lavitz enters and explains that the town is well and they will be able to rebuild once the war is over. He then reveals that Sandora is readying itself to attack Hoax using the Dragon and that he plans to head there to maintain the front line. Dart then becomes determined to go with Lavitz to end the war before carrying on with his journey. Shana also decides to follow along. For preparation, Lavitz says that Bale has shops where they can gather supplies and stay at his mother's home.

At Lavitz's home his mother confuses Shana for Lavitz's new bride. He quickly explains that she is Darts sweetheart. A bit saddened, Lavitz's mother tells Dart that he needs to speak up next time and tells Lavitz that he needs to find a girl like Shana. She continues to ask if he would be staying for the day but tells him to at least have lunch if he couldn't stay. Shana offers her help in making lunch. While the women prepare lunch, Lavitz gives Dart a tour of his home. When they make it to the library, Lavitz shows Dart his "treasure". He moves the ladder to the window and invites Dart to the roof. On the roof is a perfect view of Indels Castle. Seeing this view every day Lavitz grew up hoping to be an admired knight like his father. Lavitz compares his desire to protect his country to that of Dart's desire to protect Shana. Someone calls from below and tells them that lunch is ready. When they finish their meal they prepare to go to Hoax. As they leave the town, they bump into Martel who hastly disappears into the city.

Hoax[]

When they arrive at Hoax, Shana is surprised to see that the town is so fortified that it looks more like a fortress. In the headquarters, Lavitz introduces Shana and Dart to Kaiser, the Head of the Eighth Knighthood of Basil. The group is soon given tasks to aid in the defense of the fortress-town. Shana is asked to cook for the soldiers, while Dart and Lavitz take up the watch with the other soldiers. While Lavitz discusses military matters with Kaiser, Dart and Shana go look around in the town. They meet Midwife Gilda in one of the house and learn more about what happened between King Carlo and Emperor Doel in the past, and that the envy of Doel for the then 6-year old Albert who was crowned the next king eventually lead to the seperation between Sandora and Basil. After the end of meeting with Kaiser, Dart and Lavitz take over the watch in the town.

For a while, the hooting of owls gives Dart and Lavitz the assurance that no enemy soldiers have infiltrated the woods around Hoax. When Dart leaves his position and go down to get something to eat, the hoots stop and the entire town is under a sudden attack by Sandoran troops. Dart and Lavitz fend off the first enemies, including the Sandora Elite. However, things take a turn when a Giganto warrior named Kongol appears. Dart and Lavitz fight hard against the Giganto, but are unable to overcome him. Kongol knocks Dart down and raises his axe to finish him off.

Suddenly, there is a glimpse light appears in the sky, as Rose, a winged Dragoon warrior comes in and interrupts the fight. She calls upon the Dragoon Spirit of Dart, and Dart begins to glow. As Dart transforms into a Dragoon, a burst of energy flings Kongol away. Lavitz stands by and is amazed to see Dart transformed.

As Dart rests in the inn, Shana blames Rose for causing trouble. When Dart wakes up, he explains to Shana that Rose is the one who saved his life from the Dragon on his way to seles, and thanks her. Rose told them that while saving Dart was a test to see whether he really was a Dragoon, she also also saw her old friends who struggled and still remained strong in the past in Dart and Lavitz.

As they go outside, they see Hoax at dawn, having taken a lot of damage during the raid. At this point, the group hears the news that the Seventh Fort in Marshlands is under heavy attack by Sandoran troops and the Dragon. Rose states than any human effort against the Dragon would be futile, however Dragoon, the rulers of Dragon, might be able to overcome the Dragon. As Dart vows to change the future of the country using the power of the Dragoon, the group decides to head to the Marshland under the blessings of Kaiser.

After making their way through the Marshlands, the group arrives at Volcano Villude. As they walk into the area they are stopped by a quake. The quake is caused by Fire Bird as it rises from the ground. Dart asks if they "can just let it go." Rose explains that it is up to Fire Bird, who takes notice of the group and flies at them. The group travels through the volcano with no interuptions until, at a lava pool, Shana is called by a mysterious voice. Dart follows her and finds Shana in front of some large statue like object. Dart walks near it, but Shana warns him; Rose agrees with Shana as it is a creature called "Virage" and is still alive. Rose explains that the Virage were the Winglies' response to the Dragons used by humans and used in the Dragon Campaign. Shana wonders how it could still be alive after such a long time, when suddently the Virage starts to move. Rose assumes it may either be from a hatred for humans or a vendetta against Dragoons and a battle ensues. Once Dart gives it the finishing blow, the Virage falls back in the lava behind it and sinks into it.

As the group continues passing through Volcano Villude, they hear a call for help. They find a man precariously hanging from a ledge by the strands of his clothes. Dart and Shana help the man up and he thanks them graciously by giving them a Sapphire Pin. The man introduses himself as Dabas of Lohan and explains that he was looking for a "Burning Gem". He finishes by saying he has an antique shop and suggest that his saviors drop by if they are ever in Lohan and then goes off.

After passing through Volcano Villude and entering the Nest of Dragon, Rose senses that the atmosphere is infected due the Dragon's poison, and the trees around the area have mutated as well. Shana is sickened by the environment around her and requires a break, however she is soon ready to continue with their quest. The group proceeds to the giant web but breaks through it, falling into an underground habitat and discovering a source of uncontaminated pure water. Dart and his companions work their way up, touching strange plants that retreat and set the path free, and make their way to a larger hall.

Before the fight begins, Rose asks Greham where he has the Dragoon Spirit from, to which he reveals that Emperor Doel received his power and intelligence from Emperor Diaz. This leaves Rose in entire disbelief, as Diaz was a historical figure that died over 11,000 years ago. Greham, however, refuses to elaborate, and challenges the group to a fight.

Eventually, Lavitz and the others defeat the Dragon and Greham. Greham, in his final moments, praises Lavitz for having the strength of his father, and shows regret about his own betrayal After he dies, the Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragoon choses Lavitz as his new master.

It is then when Shana collapses as the result of being exposed to the posion for too long. The group rushes to Lohan, where a famous doctor is supposed to reside, to find a cure for Shana.

After fighting Greham and Feyrbrand in Nest of Dragon, Dart and his companions reach Lohan where they take the unconscious Shana to Sanator, the famous physician residing in the town. After Shana is examined by the doctor, he reveals that the only hope for a fast cure might be the Dragoni Plant, a plant only rumored to exist in legends.

Upon visting the town, the group meets Dabas again and ask him about the Dragoni Plant. Although he doesn't have it at his store, he looks it up in his notebook and finds a note about it.

I remember hearing about it somewhere. Hold on a sec. Well, in this secret notebook.... Yes! It's in here! It says, North of the poisoned forest. Past the troublesome plant. Observed Dragoni Plant in back of the Shrine!

Dart, Lavitz and Rose remember a mutated plant at the location where Shana rested when they first entered the Nest of Dragon, and come up with the idea of sprinkling it with the pure water from the nest to purify it and go past it. They leave Dabas' Antiques without buying anything, and go to the main road of the town, where a merchant offers them a bottle for the water for 100,000,000G. The group refuses, but the merchant says the offer was a joke, and offers it for 3,000G instead. Dart keeps negotiating and is eventually, after a moment of silence, receiving the bottle for free. The group heads back to the Nest of Dragon to get the pure water and to make their way to the Shrine of Shirley.

As the group pulls out their Dragoon Spirits, the Insignia resonates, revealing that there is a Dragoon Spirit somewhere within the temple. As Dart and his companions ventured further in the Shrine, they are warned by anonymously written message board not to continue further, but they keep searching. Across the Shrine, they discover a number dial, but cannot enter the correct code without knowing the numbers. As they go further, a chest near the top of the Shrine activates a trap and makes them take a mine cart trip around the Shrine, but on the rail the group passes over the signboards with numbers 3, 5, and 2 written on them separately, before they are cast out of the cart and plunge into the water at the entry of the Shrine. Dart enters the numbers into the dial which unlocks a new path high up into the shrine. Dart discovers another puzzle further, where two statues can be aligned to different directions. Having seen the directions of the same statues before when exploring the Shrine, Dart turns the golden statue to the front and the silver statue to the left. The stairs in front of him no longer collapse and the group arrives at the top of the shrine.

Dart tries to explain that they are only searching for the Dragoni Plant, but Drake does not believe them and challenges them to a fight. The battle ends with Drake being mortally wounded. In midst of that, the ghost of Shirley appears and questions them for why they are disturbing her peace. Also, Rose appears to be an acquaintance to Shirley. After Dart and his companions explain themselves, Shirley reveals that there is no Dragoni Plant at the Shrine, but with the healing powers of the Dragoon Spirit of the White-Silver Dragon they could cure the poison. However, before handing it over, she tests the group, particularly Dart and Lavitz to prove their worthiness for White Silver Dragoon Spirit, by engaging them into a battle where she takes the form of Shana and Albert to test their courage and dedication to their task at hand. After proving themselves worthy, upon the wish of Shirley, Dart revives Drake, who protected the Shrine for many years against intruders. After this, Shirley ascends towards the heaven and vanishes. The party rushes back to Lohan to cure Shana.

The Sanator is deeply impressed by the miracle he witnesses and realizes that it is Dart and his group that defeated the Dragon. Upon this, he recommends Dart to participate in the Hero Competition, a tournament to determine the strongest fighter of Endiness and held in Lohan at that time.

After the awakening of Shana, the group goes to the "Hero Competition" at the arena of Lohan; Dart signs up to participate. Before the contest starts, Dart meet his old friend Haschel who has also signed up. After catching up on events since their journey together, the contest begins. Dart and Haschel, in different brackets, work their way through the tournament. Dart fights four opponents, Gorgaga, Serfius, Danton and Atlow. Offscreen, Haschel also progresses far into the tournament, before a mysterious swordsman named Lloyd unexpectedly defeats him. Dart expected to fight Haschel, but Lloyd is his opponent in the finals instead. He dodges Dart's attacks with inhuman speed, and launches devastating attacks. After a short fight, Lloyd finishes off Dart and becomes the winner of the contest. Dart, for making it to the finals, places second; Haschel places third. In the back room, Dart admits his defeat, to which Lloyd commends his opponents with somewhat mysterious comments.

"You haven't reached your limits. You will be stronger. You will have

to be. You too. You'll become stronger."

-Lloyd to Dart and Haschel

After Dart receives Shana's congratulations for the second place and introduces Haschel to his friends, he and Shana take off some time together in the arena to enjoy some games. After they finished, Lavitz goes outside with Dart for a moment, giving him some candid advice about giving more priority to Shana and to re-think his quest for revenge with the Black Monster.

Dart. Revenge doesn't solve anything. I learned that from the death of Greham, the guy who betrayed my father, the guy who defected to the Sandora.... The guy I hated. The person you should be looking for is not from your past. Right? You should pay attention to the present. I'll accept a couple of drinks for this advice. When the war ends, let's have a drink in Bale.

-Lavitz to Dart

When the group re-unites and sets out to report to King Albert in Bale about their successful quest to overcome the Dragon, a dying solider of Basil stumbles into the town and tells Lavitz that Bale has fallen to a surprise attack of Sandora and that King Albert has been kidnapped and taken to Hellena Prison. Lavitz is enraged and immediately wants to head to Hellena to liberate his king, but is hold back by Dart. Haschel rushes in and delivers a blow to Lavitz, knocking him unconscious.

As Lavitz awakes at the clinic where Shana was, Haschel scolds him for losing his self-control. Haschel decides to join the group in their quest, and they set out together to liberate the king.

They work their way upwards to a heavily guarded room, where the Wardens set up a trap to drop them into a cave where they are supposed to become food to the monster Jiango. After the battle, Shana finds an opening to a passage back up and the group heads toward the top of the Building to stop Fruegel from killing Albert. Once at the top, the group fight Fruegel again with his two pets, Rodriguez and Guftas.

The group finally kills Fruegel, with Lavitz delivering the finishing blow. However, at this moment, the Man in Hood steals the Moon Gem, a national treasure of Serdio, sealed inside the body of Albert. Lavitz transforms himself to a Dragoon to come to his king's help, but is struck by the Dragon Buster and falls to the ground. The Hooded Man reveals his identity to be Lloyd and flees. Dart rushes to Lavitz, who entrusts everything to Dart, as he dies in Dart's arms. The Dragoon Spirit of the Jade Dragoon is then passed on to Albert, who thanks his best friend.

Together with Albert, they group makes a return to Seles, where they uncover a shelter near the center of the village to have an undisturbed conversation about the events that happened. Albert expresses his deep gratitude to Dart and his group, and reveals the story of the Moon Gem, the national treasure of Serdio, being sealed inside the body of the royal heir. They assume that Lloyd, who was employed by Albert and worked a double agent for Sandora, stole it for Emperor Doel to become the legitimate king of Serdio. Although Albert, the legitimate heir to the throne, is still alive, he has no residence nor troops anymore, but as the group of legendary Dragoons, they decide to head straight to Emperor Doel in the Black Castle in Kazas to end the war directly. Dart and his group find new resolve and vow that Lavitz' death will not be in vain, and Albert is determined to personally take up his lance to end the war.

Lastly, a cutscene at the Black Castle shows a conversation between Emperor Doel and Lloyd, where it appears hat Lloyd has a deeper agenda and no intentions to hand over the Moon Gem to Doel, and warns the emperor to not be caught in a "red fire" as he goes off.

After the events of Hellena, in Seles, Dart, Albert and their companions decide to confront Emperor Doel and end the war for good. They travel to Kazas and find the streets guarded by Sandora troops, although the Sandorans do not recognise them as their enemies. The group wanders around the city to look for more clues on how to approach Doel, and find out that the citizens of Kazas are experiencing lots of hardship under the emperor's reign, that mercenaries are being hired, and that there is a civil resistance movement called the New Serdio Party.

Dart his group decide against entering the Black Castle directly, as breaking in by force would cause trouble. As they explore further, they find a slum with a makeshift housing area that was supposed to be a fort in the past. In the fort house, they meet Popo, a kid who is the leader for the New Serdio Party, a civil movement aiming to end the Serdian War and to support the people of Sandora.

Upon talking to Popo, he believes Dart and his group to be potential candidates to join the New Serdio Party, and asks them three questions before leeting them in. Upon passing his questions, Albert reveals his identity and his plans to end the war personally to the boy. An overjoyed Popo proceeds to lead the group towards an underground tunnel in the fort leading to the Black Castle, and speaks of his hopes to finally be able to search for his parents when the war ends. Dart and his friends climb down into an underground caveway from Popo's house and find their way up to the Black Castle.

In the basement of the castle, Dart and his group find a laboratory. They are welcomed by the Researchers, who mistake them for mercenaries, and introduce them to some of their research: The White Flame that can be used for healing, the Green Flame that is inextinguishable and can be used to gain advantage in the war, and the Purple Flame can be used as an energy source to run lifts. The scientists hand the group some Magic Oil for the Purple Flame to operate the lifts in the castle.

Dart and his group manage to obtain a Red Stone from a garbage dump site in the basement. Upon further exploring the castle, they run into Mr. Magi, a researcher of whom the other researchers said that it would be "too late" for him. Paranoid and accusing the group of trying to steal his research, the scientist fails to unleash attacking magic spells such as the "steel shearing vacuum blade" and the "rock crushing thunder arrow", and eventually uses a transformation spell on himself to turn into "Cerberus", only to turn himself into a harmless dog. In Mr. Magi's laboratory, the group finds the Blue Stone.

Making their way towards the top of the castle, the group battles more Sandoran Knights and a Sandora Elite before meeting the Great Commander of Sandora in his room, the man who was responsible for kidnapping Shana, although he despised the unnecessary brutality used by the unit loyal to Fruegel during the attack on Seles. The Great Commander asks to hear his story first before Dart might execute revenge for his hometown. He states that Emperor Doel changed into a power-hungry, ruthless oppressor after Lloyd showed up, and asks Dart to "wake Emperor Doel up". He understands if they do that, Imperial Sandora will lose to the Kingdom of Basil, but they will also end the hardship and oppression imposed by Emperor Doel on the people. Dart, happy about the Commander's noble intentions, puts his sword away and accepts the Yellow Stone from the Commander, making a remark that Lavitz would have been happy to hear that "there was a man like this in Sandora".

Upon approaching the throne room, the group uses all three stones to reveal a secret elevator behind the statue of Empress Karina, Emperor Doel's late wife, after speaking to Father Faza, a priest in service of Sandora, who tells them about the more humane sides of Emperor Doel. Before the throne room, the group confronts Kongol for a second time, but manage to defeat him. Kongol, ashamed by his second defeat, asks the group to kill him, but they refuse to do so, particularly on Shana's objections.

Finally, as they enter the throne room, Dart and Albert demand their answers from Emperor Doel for why he killed Albert's father, King Carlo, 20 years ago, and why he kidnapped Shana. On the first question, he claims to having saved Serdio from "an incompetent leader named Carlo", and on Shana, he answers with a more cryptic line.

"Find the girl by the time the Moon That Never Sets waxes..." All is ordered by the reborn Emperor Diaz. Lloyd is a mere pawn. Along with the Dragoons...

-Doel

Rose calls this silly, as Emperor Diaz died over 11,000 years ago as a human hero. Doel refuses to elaborate further and challenges the group to a fight, during which Doel reveals himself as the Dragoon of the Violet Dragon. However, after a long battle, Dart and his companions are victorious. Returning to his old self for a short time before his death, Doel commends Albert for becoming strong, and tells his nephew to pursue Lloyd in the western country of Tiberoa and to find out more about the world and to find his answers. Albert salutes in front of his dying uncle.

You have become... strong. What you should know is not the past, but the future. Pursue... Lloyd. He is in the Western country of... Tiberoa. He knows everything. Go, and find out...about the world, about...everything.

-Doel to Albert

As the group decides to pursue Lloyd in Tiberoa, Haschel thinks of leaving the group again, but is chosen by the Dragoon Spirit of the Violet Dragon as its next master. He decides to stay true to his fate as a Dragoon and comes along to Tiberoa.
